Something we haven't tried...

Sustained ambition?

When was the last time we showed ambition and saw it through?

Played some glorious stuff under Spackman when all the stars aligned. Sold Deane and Fjortoft same day when well placed for autos.

Whereas when West Ham, Newcastle and Wolves went down, they strengthened their teams to dominate the division they had fallen to, we couldn't wait to cut our cloth.

Evans, were it not for his case would have been first out the door. Each season since has been preempted with sale of the family silver.

Blackman's sale, not long after Miller's injury and only 6 months into his deal was one of the worst money grabs I can recall.

We couldn't wait to give Quinn away, a bloke who loved the club, just to get rid of his wages.

Even with Brayford, he should have been signed earlier if we intended to do the signing. Instead we signed a number of jobbers and then still added him. And this only came after selling Maguire in what was a cringeworthy episode.

Adkins made a pigs ear of things spending on high wages but it did seem at times his primary mandate was culling Clough's numbers and of course overseeing the Murphy sale.

Even now Wilder is asked to do more with less. Expected to improve the league position, whilst working with the reduced Budget after the mass end of season release and also expected to manage out the big earners.

I appreciate it takes money to run a club but such short-termism is counter productive, so boom and bust. And as Keith Edwards once said, if you're a Football chairman and you don't want to spend serious money, then get another hobby.

We have no idea how to show ambition and each time we do, we pull the plug within 6 months.

Exactly as you say. Weasel bollocks McCabe however pulls the shutters up as soon as things don't look like working.

Dave Bassett was a foreigner.
He talked funny and we took the piss out of his accent.
He had a few contacts and made some decent signings.
Even his physio was French

Which foreign manager would look at us and say 'good potential, plenty to work with, could make a good name for.myself amd end up in the prem'?. Nobody!

We seem to keep repeating history - we've tried every sort of manager - ex players, experienced, blades, but we have never got a modern foreign coach in with different contacts and ideas. Don't know why not ? Maybe we should explore this avenue when Wilder goes the same way as many before him.before him
