Blades fans will be delighted to learn that Andy Reid's loan period with the club has been extended to take in the Christmas and New Year period.

Reid, 28, has impressed in his four games so far, which has included netting the winning goal at Millwall earlier this month.

His initial loan was due to expire after this Saturday's trip to Bristol City, but Gary Speed will now be able to call upon the Irishman's services until after the home encounter with Doncaster Rovers on Monday 3 January 2011.

In addition, United are pleased to announce that Sunderland have not insisted on a recall clause in the loan deal.

Yes it should do given that Reid's last game is Jan 3rd. Although if you're thinking the young irish fella is gonna replace Reid, then thats a hell of a lot of pressure on the poor lad!

I agree, although the same thought crossed my mind and I think he will (for all intents and purpose) slot into Reid's position eventually. He is similar in the sense that he can play in the middle and out wide, although we do have to bare in mind the lad will be on a steep learning curve so not to expect too much too soon.

Things are looking up though, we've got players to look forward to now and ones that can get the others playing.
