So whos the new keeper going to be?

Who is going to come in for him and give him the £20k+ wages he wants?

I don't think many Premiership clubs would take him. Not many CCC can afford that. We cannot, evidently.

I can only think of WBA that may come in for him, don't think anyone else is struggling for keepers.

To be honest i don't think he appreciates how good he has it at the Lane, maybe he will realise that when he leaves.

I'd give Bennett a chance, he has always done ok for us when needed. Kenny needs to get real, as Sunderland says - there isn't exactly going to be a queue of clubs willing to pay him silly wages.

Given Kennys patchy form there would be no way in hell i would pay him 20K a week. Bennett has always done well when called upon and has been paitent in waiting for his chance. Kenny has been a good servant for the club, but he should also remember it was Sheff Utd who gave him the chance to shine at a higher level. if a club not from the CCC came in offering a fee i would consider it.

WBA have scott Carson who is a better keeper than Kenny and they have Dean Kiely as 2nd choice anyway so can't see that happening

Give a youngster a chance like man city did?

Whats that annerson(sp) doing at the minute? is he still with us?

Maybe chance for him to get a look in then?

Heard he's a great keeper

Yeah he must have something about him. He's been capped at England Under 19 level hasn't he?

Lee Camp and Lee Grant were both England U21 keepers, and look at them now.

That's hardly a valid argument really though. How many keepers have been capped at under 21's and turned out to be good? Plus i doubt all the goals they let in are entirely their fault.

I think it will end up being Bennett with Haber as back up & Annerson ready for injuries.

Annerson is very, very good - although seems to be injury prone

I saw first saw Annerson at the Academy in 2005, and he seemed a very good prospect then. He has improved a lot, but as SF says, he's inconsistent. I'm sure that will change with age and experience though.

If that's not a valid argument, saying that a player plays for England at youth level is not a valid argument either; lots of players play for the England youth teams and go on to do very little afterwards - probably more so than turn out to be world class players. The dearth of competent English goalkeepers suggests that, to play for England at youth level (and some would argue at senior level), you don't have to be that good. Have we got a single keeper who you could honestly put in the same bracket as Iker Cassillas, Gianluigi Buffon or Petr Cech?

Also, Lee Grant is a better keeper than he used to be, but still flaps too much and punches away too many balls that he should realistically catch. He's not what you'd call a world class keeper, and is certainly no better than Bennett or Kenny.

How many players go on from any position to be world class after playing for the U21 side?
I'd take a guess at about 15 every 2 years (If we are lucky) when the U21 side has 40+ different players in that time.

That's exactly my point. Playing internationally at youth level is not an accurate yardstick for future success. Peter Beagrie played for the under 21s for us and, whilst he was a decent enough player, he never reached the success levels of some of his contemporaries.

I do hope that Annerson has a bright future and can have as good an impact as Naughton, but previous examples has shown that this will not necessarily be the case. Either way, I'd much rather have a player who wants to play for the club playing than one who thinks he's bigger than the club.

Joe Lewis from posh would be a mint signing 6' 6'' giant of a keeper and doing the buisness only 21 surely worth a punt

I'd just keep Bennett for the rest of the season, with Haber as back up. Bennett's never done us wrong when he's come in in the past, he's a very good goalkeeper even if he isn't the biggest.

With the rumours rife of Paddy going north, I just wondered what peoples opinions would be should we be able to get a potential swap deal with Newcastles Harper?

Although Paddy has 18 months to run on his contract, he still appears to be destined to leave us, and with Harper out of contract in the summer i just wondered if this could be a plausible option. OK he isnt a first team regular but has proven himself at that level when called upon.

Lets be honest about it. Should the Geordies come in for Paddy, and Given doesnt move on, then he isnt going to be first choice is he. But with Harper still there would he even be second choice?

Just a shout anyway, would be interested in others veiws

I wouldn't argue with that as long as we get a decent fee along with it.

Harper's a steady keeper, he's been unlucky to be behind a world class keeper in Given behind him. I'd definitely welcome him to the Lane. Good shout MAQ.

I really like Harper, everytime he's had the chance for them he's performed well but as soon as Given comes back he's out again no matter what his form is like.
