Who would look forward to the Championship.

THE FANS.
Would love it, the silver chalice of the Championship would be just a stepping stone on the way to the Holy grail of the Premiership in the minds of most.

THE MANAGER.
It would make his job much harder than at present, but I'm sure he feels that with a bit of luck and a lot of backing he would enjoy the challenge...

THE BOARD.
Although the attendance figures would probably increase by about a third depending how well we did, the administration costs would go up by at least 50% just to hold our own, so I would think with great trepidation...

THE PLAYERS.
Some of the better younger one's would be looking forward to the challenge a chance to prove their worth and improve their wage packets , most of the others will be wondering if they would still have a job and for how long.....

OK I may sound a little pessimistic but you have to remember it's probably the same for 99% of the other clubs down here...

There is no point going up, if we do not have the resources to stay in the Championship.

You go up with a team , that gets you out of league 1. You stay up then by getting championship players to keep you there. I would prefer to get there first , and hopefully this season.

If we eventually do get up, the 'game changing investment' will kick in, as that will enable us the "push on and get this club in the division it should be in"

computer crashed! I meant to say "we are in more trouble than we realise"

Couldn't agree more.

It's not as though Sheffield United is short of supporters paying anything between £15-£35 a ticket every other week with anything from 7k to 20k rolling through the turnstiles. Then there's merchandise and input from other sources such as BladesPlayer and playing staff sales like Maguire. Then there's this assumption we wrongly have that additions to the board equals cash being deposited into the club's coffers. Silly us. All in all, it means more moolah than other teams sat around us. And then why shouldn't we expect this promise of cash when we are promoted to the Championship to be true? If not, why join the board in the first place?

Oh, and by the way. If we are short of cash, mebbe jettisoning recent 'jobs for the boys' like our European playing gofer might be a good idea?

You don't really believe in all that "game changing investment " hogwash do you ?? That was just our Board bullshitting us all AGAIN for the 124th year running !!
Its funny ( not ha ha ) how the rhetoric is always things that are "going to happen " ........ I shall believe when we are told of something "game changing" that has ACTUALLY HAPPENED !!

Aw come on Darth. Have some faith and keep turning up every other Saturday (to watch us fuck it up again)

And stop having a go at the board, eh? It's not their fault. It's the fans fault for singing 'Lord Michael Brown'.

You can't blame the board for the current state of the team. If more fans turned up (like me from 220 miles away) and just 'got behind the team' we'd be doing just smashing now.

*claps hands*

pommpey :)

Indeed ..... lol. Its the fault of those bloody fans again .... I seem to remember Warnock telling us to piss off to meadowhall if we didn't like his decisions !!

Don't worry, I've been going for 50 years now and I'm not planning on stopping, but I'm mighty pissed off with being bullshitted mate

I am not actually all that bothered about promotion, I just want good exciting football where you come away from the ground not feeling like shit. This is not happening at all. If it did happen, then there would also be a good chance of promotion too, I guess.

know exactly what you mean , and 99% feel the same . Its wanting that feel good factor , but winning football matches brings this , but in league 1 , the aim is promotion, nothing less . The type of football is secondary , getting 3 points ,however you play ,is be all and end all .We can only enjoy a good game of football when we are in a first season transition period in the championship , and there is no chance of going down or going up .The season after we would want promotion to the premiership , and it starts all over again.

If I'm completely honest, having supported for 50 years, I'm not that bothered about the Premiership ..... the refs are so biased towards the "big 5" that it makes it a hugely frustrating experience playing them and I hate to see all the "big bucks mercenaries" from abroad, diving like Tom Dayley and rolling around like poleaxed warthogs at every tackle.

I would be happy to see us competing at the top end of the Championship every year, playing good, fast, exciting football, scoring goals and competing well in the Cups and stuffing the spawny, lucky, scummy, arrogant piggy bastards whenever we meet them.
That .... will do me fine !! :D

Darthblade . I am not bothered about the premiership , but it is the holy grail of football to get there . The money would be nice and seeing the top teams at BDTBL. However taking things one at a time , lets get out of league 1 first and into the championship .

Not worried about the premiership , just want stability in the championship , but getting there will be a big step in giving supporters want they deserve.

Mr Clough has the responsibility and dreams of all blades on his shoulders . Let us hope he makes this a reality.

The manager undoubtedly wants to go up. If he doesn't achieve promotion then his job at risk.
The board undoubtedly want us to go up as well. If we don't then attendance figures will drop off, there will be no greater sponsorship deals, less TV money and a further step away from the elusive Premier League where all the money is. If the board didn't want us to get promoted then I highly doubt that they would have become involved in the first place and paid off our substantial debts for us to only lose even more money and in a crap league too.
Undoubtedly some of the older players will be a little more worried if we do go up but if we don't get promoted then their job will still be at risk still...

I've supported them that long and what you've said would do me.
But you know what fuck it let's go for bottom half of Prem

Its a small point, buts its Bristol City, or shall we be known as Sheffield?

another small but meaningful point and this comes from a Forest mate of mine, It's Nottingham Forest, not Notts Forest - seriously, it sends them bonkers.
