So who is actually that bothered about relegation?

I just want to get this season over and done with. We're down... I accepted it months ago.

Unfortunately, the players did too. And that pisses me off.

I'm with you on that Linz, but looking forward to going to some proper football grounds next season, be a good atmosphere.

My first full season as a Blade was 85/86, and I was devestated when we went down in 88 as I was in a school full of blue and white vermin, however, we then went through 2 of my best ever seasons of watching the Blades. The promotion season in 88/89 is often overshadowed as we went straight up to the top flight but there were some great memories from that season and some stunning goals scored by the Blades -Deane and Agana were on fire. We hammered loads of teams at they Lane with an exiting brand of 'long ball'

highlights

hammering Northampton at Lane 4-0 when they were high flying
coming from behind at Port Vale in last min to draw 3 all
hitting Chester for 6
Pike scoring at Notts County on boxing day
hammering huddersfield 5-1 on same day pigs let 5 in at anfield
Agana scoring a belter at Huddersfield in Cup
reaching 5th round of cup
beating 1st division newcastle at Lane 3-0
Last home game of season at lane v swansea just about sealing promotion
that windy night at Mansfield when Booker became a legend

hope next season is half as good:)

Id say we have all accepted it and I was one of a few who saw it as fairly certain possibility even last summer.

I am annoyed now that everyone at the club has just let it happen and we are going down with no fight about us at all.

Had a long time to get used to the idea but still absolutely gutted that we have sunk so far so fast, and also because its hard to be optimistic about next season either.

too young to remember the last time we were in such a low division, so a change of scenery is a bit of solace, I accepted relegation as a dead cert after the Scunny game. Still hurts every week when the scores come in, and I've been lucky enough to be at the few wins we've had. I'm optimistic about next season, but trying not to think of us as a big fish in a small pond-always seems to end in tears that way. We are going to be down there because that's what we deserve (not us fans) but it's not like we've played well enough to stay in this division, so going down and learning the hard way it will be.

I am beyond being bothered. There is nothing I can do to alter the inevitable. It's only a game and there are more important things in life.

re Agana's goal at Huddersfield (mentioned above). Cup match and blasted in, stood with the Hudders fans, my mate went ballistic, always a risk going with him

I hope you mean the timing of sacking bLackwell

No I mean sacking Blackwell. If this squad was going to be destroyed and riped apart (which it was) then I would rather have Blackwell than Speed, Carver or Adams, due to the fact Blackwell had an incredible winning record.

yeah but you seem to have conveniently missed the fact that it was bootwell that was systematically destroying it

As realisation kicks in and the summer is creeping up on us, are you still angry and upset about us being relegated or do you now think that worse things have happened and next season should be good?

I'm still angry and upset about getting relegated in 2006-7. This just makes me more angry and upset. The decision makers at the Lane should be ashamed of what they have done to the club since relegation.

Whilst next season might go well - we have a few good young players who may make an impact - there is nothing else to suggest it will go well. We have a poor quality squad, a clueless manager, declining revenues and a board that seemingly have no intention of investing any meaningful money in the team. That all points to a bottom half finish at best, possibly worse if Adams is allowed to sign more dreck.

Bothered?? Not really. I've accepted it for some time now, so, let's just get on with it now.
Of course i'm gutted and pissed off at the way my club has fallen, but, i'll carry on supporting and following the badge, so, let's just hope things get better.

Just me then.

YES, I am royally fucked off that we have been/are about to be, relegated to the wasteland of being associate members of the football league.
Johnson Paint Trophy??? Out of the FA Cup by Christmas??? Playing the pigs in the third tier. Fuck me I've seen it all before and didn't like it one little bit.

I wouldn't mind so much if we'd been unlucky, or had fought like fuck or our big players had been injured and missed masses of the season. But it hasn't been like that at all. We've got a non particiapting owner, a bunch of overpaid, undercaring money sponges who don't give a shiny shite for our predicament and we are expected to soak it all up and be happy to start again in the pits of the lower league.
Yep, on reflection I AM bothered about us going down!

What this man said. Yes I accepted it months ago, in fact I mentioned it might be a problem at the start of the season. That doesn't mean I am not utterly shocked by the lack of fight from fans, players and management alike. The person to blame for this is the one who is still sat (as I understand it) on his lofty perch. No car park demos, no shoes off, no "Fuck off McCabe", just acceptance of it. The relegation apart this has been a most un-Sheffield United like season. The club is on the floor and some people are just shrugging their shoulders like it really doesn't matter.

'and some people are just shrugging their shoulders like it really doesn't matter'
Yep, that's me, I'm sad to say. How a few short years change one's perspective.

Bladesway: Perhaps fans are reflecting on their part they've played leading to this situation eg shoes off against Blackwell, demands for Warnock to go after relegation, impatience when he first started, propaganda and demands to appoint Speed, a man clearly with no stomach for the fight, so perhaps they are eating a bit of humble pie.

I don't share your highanded blame of our loyal fans and you also make a couple of mistakes:
It was shoes off against Robson, rightly so in my opinion as he played a massive role in getting us to where we are.
I don't think the fans had much of the say in getting in Speed. What 'fan' propaganda are you talking about?
The blame lies squarely on the board and staff relating to recruitment, finance and management. Also, the players have been gutless at times.

a bit "highhanded" that Rudders. Ok Robson not Blackwell, you can't deny that fans were calling for Blackwell to go. Phone ins, message boards all pushing Speeds name forward as a replacement. Perhaps it's sinking in that continually asking for a managerial change isn't the answer. I remember when Warnock first joined he took some right stick then after our relegation Bean verbally abused him in front of his family. I don't think Iv'e suggested it's ALL the fans fault obviously Mcabe, players etc share the main responsibility. According to you fans have shown a lack of committment by not taking their shoes off (yawn). Perhaps they recognised that it's not the mature way to do things

I think the performances under Speed made people realise very early that we would be in trouble. 2 shots on goal in a game is far from productive in terms of trying to gain points. People are quick to point out Adams' record but he has had to undo a lot of damage and that's taken time. With the squad we had and Blackwell I think we may have scraped into a safe position. But the time lost with Speed's bland approach saw us stand no chance. I have at least left games under Adams wondering how we lost and got nothing. I recall leaving The Lane under Speed feeling grateful we got a point as we offered nothing all game.
