Having a fully fit and cohesive unit certainly helped with keeping cleans sheets. We saw what happened when Collins was pulled out of the first team. Left back has been a weak link and perhaps we do miss Lecs. We obviously had some disruptions to the defence and this cost us. But even since Brentford away we've had pretty much the same defence and they have conceded a fair amount of goals. I see it partly down to the way we have been playing. Lately we've been really attack minded and played a fast paced, offensive game. As a result we've scored a lot, but also conceded. We did this earlier in the season, when we had Philips (and Clarke). Perhaps we have lost our discipline a little when we've been smashing teams or bombing forward. Individual mistakes seemed to have creeped back in a little too. Earlier in the season (other than when we had the Blackpool loanees) we did not give away any soft goals, there were few individual errors and we seemed more of a drilled defensive unit. I think we should go back to basics and aim to get this back. Rather than simply gunning to outscore teams (ok with Evans on fire) I think we just need to keep a few clean sheets and we'll get chances to nick goals.

For the play-offs I agree, for Saturday, we should go at Exeter from the off and aim to get in front early.

Us winning heaps the pressure back onto Wednesday. Our best chance of going up is Wedbnesday panicking in front of a packed Pigsty.

0-0 at the sty and 2-0 up in our game and the natives may get a bit restless...

At times like these I always try to guess how we are going to get kicked in the teeth. Sometimes the elements are easy to predict (Tevez scoring at Old Trafford), sometimes more difficult (Unsworth scoring the winner from the spot).

For Saturday, my prediction is that we do go ahead early: this would mean that on the "as it stands" table we'll be 2nd. It won't last, of course - the Pigs will score before half time and that will be that. But us taking the lead, giving us a glimmer of hope, is very much the Blades Way.

As for this thread in general, there have been some missed opportunities for more points here and there, but the fact is that this is the 54th season of third tier football since Divisions 3 and 4 were created, and this is the first time that this many points will not be enough for promotion, and this sickens me but it doesn't surprise me in the least that we are the club getting screwed like this.

Oh no, the true blades way would be for the pigs to draw, and we draw as well. Probabaly by conceding in the last minute, or by missing a last minute penalty.
