So we're not going up are we?

Depends on how you define 'current form'. Over the last 5 games the Owls just edge it, but go a little further back and they lost three in a row in February.

One statistic is good enough for me:

Notts County 1 Wednesday 2
Notts County 2 United 5

Is that current enough for you?

Walsall 3 - United 2
Weds 2 - Walsall 2

Its all about momentum as I am sure you well know. I choose 6 games as that is what many of the pools use. Sooner or later Weds will lose, just a matter of keeping ahead and that's the hard bit. I now reckon MK rather than Town might be the bigger threat, GD and all that and a fairly easy run in for them.

heres a szummary of dave jones recent promotion history with cardiff

in with a shout , bottled it
in with a shot , bottled it
really close , bottled it
excruciatingly close , bottled it

anyone notice a pattern

Its too close to call in reality, but tonight's result has been the morale booster we all needed. Shame Chesterfield is next week. What's the record against them like at home? I thought it was poor but maybe that's tosh.

We're still here and Wednesday are still favourites for 2nd place....based on current form but I do I trust your Spannish is more eloquent than your attempt at English.

Is now a mini-league of four and MK away will be a crucial game.

Great result tonight that no one would have predicted. Just what the realists wanted.

pardon utter bollocks
wednesdays played 5 of the bottom 8 in their last 9 games
our next 5 are all against bottom 8
form is dependant on the opposition sometimes
as we now play chessy rochdale orient
owls have huddersfield colchester brentford

realists look at the whole picture , not 2 owls home wins v the 2 clubs bottom of the form table
bury lose every game 4-1 just now bournemouth lost 5 on the spin

we played a reviving walsall ( with a back 4 of strangers) LOOK WHERE THEY DREW TONIGHT, tranmere who won away tonight colchester who are flying

look at it all not just some owls results against shit teams

Wendies last 4 away games , last season they got 1 point between them , dont see them bettering it this season

Do for me mate. Although the pigs will claim they softened them up for us

Correct! Already been posted in one of their threads

Let's hope they f'k up at Orient on Saturday.

Apparantly, Jones was interviewed tonight and said they had a player down at the sty yesterday 9.00am and he had agreed to sign for them, only for him to then f'k off and sign for someone else! :)

Wise judge

Wow, hold on there. Talk about pot calling the kettle black. I said that Tranmere were resurgent and got pilloried and guess what they're on a roll!

No the Weds will finish 2nd stuff is just based on a moving projection of the last six results. For what its worth I actually predicted we'll finish level, but there again I did expect them to win tonight so its all my eye. The fact is over the last six games the grunters have a great record.

I reckon our tricky games are Chesterfield and Hartlepool, MK Dons and Stevenage. As for the unclean I would say Huddersfield and Carlisle, but it really is 1 from 4 and its now too difficult to call.

02.01.1989 Sheffield United 1-3 Chesterfield
02.04.1983 Sheffield United 3-1 Chesterfield
19.08.1980 Sheffield United 2-0 Chesterfield
29.04.1980 Sheffield United 0-2 Chesterfield

An 8 game winning run (similar to earlier in the season) wouldn't go amiss!

Perhaps then I might stick me neck out and say we're goin up! :)

we will be 5 points clear in 4 games down to who we both play
figures alone only supply raw results

if someone in the prem has to play boton wigan and wolves in a run that prem club would expect a better return than if they had to play arsenal liverpool and everton

same here , Wednesday played the teams bottom of the form table 4 of them in their last 8
its given their results a sheen thats false

we only need to win 6, even 5 as neither wednesday or huddersfield who will take points off each other will win 6

The Pigs are not favourites. Check with Ladbrokes if you won't take it from me! The only current form is the League table. All the rest is illusory. Strictly speaking, everything but the final table is illusion.

Eight games to go: I'll repeat a simple exercise that I did a couple of weeks ago. Let's assume our rivals get two points per game from now on. None of them have managed it so far so the hypothesis is generous to them, erring on the side of pessimism. Pigs 87, HT 86, MK 84.

We need, at most, 14 points from 8 games. Fewer will probably suffice.

Huddersfield are a bigger threat than the pigs now........... same goal difference as us but played a game less, win that and they would be above the pigs, I think 88pts could be enough for us as I can't see the others bettering 87pts. Mk Dons also have a GD of 32 so we need a result when we play them they would then need a fantastic run of wins to overtake us.

Pigs currently average 7 points from 3 games we are averaging 4 points from 3 games. They may be one ahead on Saturday they may not, we'll see. But MK probably have the easiest run in.

Fuck me, you're a miserable git! :)

We've averaged more PPG over the season, and are currenty coutpacing them my 3 points per game to their 1... :)

On a serious note, I'd seriously doubt it's coincidence that we were going ike a train until McDonad was injured. Now he's back and we get a terrific win away at an in form team. There's plenty of reasons to be cheerful, it seems you just have to try.

True, but meaningless. We currently average 3 points from one game; The Pigs 1 point. No-one has an easy run-in. Football doesn't work like that. Averages gravitate to the mean. 87 points will secure promotion for any team able to get them. In order to do so all our rivals need to attain an average points return that has proved beyond them so far and will undoubtedly be beyond them after 46 games. It may well be beyond us too. I suspect the team finishing second will do so with 85 or 86 points. Let's hope it's us!

Miserable - no. Cautious yes.

Interestingly we have to play 6 teams with a chance of relegation or promotion. Not a cake walk, but am really glad McDonald is back - phew ! It is Evans that worries me. If McCabe had influence he'd get the court date put back till May!

Have you misplaced your letter "L"? :D

If we win all our last 8 games then we are up. It's simple.

And we was fucking magic tonight, best away perfomance in years.

As I said elsewhere, its just based on the last 6 as per pools. Dont worry about it!

This little piggy went to Hillsboro
This little piggy stayed at home
This little piggy said we’re level nah
This little piggy said done
And this little piggy said “We’re buggered, we’re two points behind!

Over analysis will kill you! Fact we take average 2 points per game we will go up. 16 points over 8 games. Your talking about 5 wins a draw and 2 defeats. On seasons form (rather than just current) we will do it.

I don't care who the others have because most teams have something to play for at this point of the season. Take nothing for granted (which is the attitude the team should have) and play like they played tonight we should win more than we lose. So long as we are picking up points away from home we should have enough.

Isn't the main positive that its in our hands, not someone elses? To their credit the team have responded well to the D & G gang and given a performance when it matters the most. Well done once more to DW. The man can do no wrong from what I have seen this season.

at this time of the year there are no easy games.. especially against teams at the bottom.. i'd prefer to play mid table outfits with nothing to play for.. 5 wins and we're up. four games at home.. plus the pigs captain is out and the pigs and huddersfield have to play each other which is effectively one game less for one of them, unless they draw which would be even better
