So...we are going down

Remind me what league we were in when Warnock took over.

And what league we were in when Adams took over.

Whats your point? I'm sorry you've genuinely lost me, I'm not being a smart arse.

I'm confused as you.

Yoss stated that Warnock made lots of shit signings. I countered that Warnock came in when we were in the Championship. Made some shit signings, steadied the ship (which was taking on water) and then eventually took us up (despite making lots more shit signings along the way). Yes, we came back down, but that's hardly relevant to...

Micky Adams coming in while we're in the Championship, making a number of poor signings which have resulted in us dropping into the relegation zone with relegation an almost certainty.

My point being that while both made shit signings, it's unfair to compare the two considering one is taking us down, and the other maintained our tier two status.

How long was Warnock in charge, it took him years and proper investment to get the right balance to promote us. And looking at things the way they are now it would take a similar amount of time and investment to take us forward again. Thats how far I generally feel we have gone backwards.

But, and I'll keep saying this, he didn't get us relegated to League 1.

There's a stark difference there.

Right ok, I'm following now. I think this debate is in danger of being de-railed and completely going off an a tangent but whilst we're on the subject of comparing the two I think you need to look at it another way. I would argue that Warnock had better players in the team before he took over than MA did when he got the job. Warnock had a young Marcus Bent, as well as the likes of Curtis Woodhouse and Paul Devlin if memory serves. We had a number of players who served the club well for a good few years and on their day had a bit of ability. When you compare the side Warnock inherited (albeit with similarly small resources to improve it) it was a far more talented group than the set of misfits MA took on IMO.

Similar situations yes but as far as I'm concerned Warnock had a far better hand dealt to him upon arrival than the current manager did. That is the reason it is unfair to compare the two as far as I'm concerned. Our team now is shit and it was before Micky signed anyone.

Another point to the above made from Steel is Warnock didn't have to deal with a transfer window when he took charge, it gave him alot more manuverability to get the right balance to keep us.

There are stark differences to the situation, its hard to compare.

I still think Adams is a train wreck of a manager but this is very true. Many of the players in Heath's team played much better after NW turned up. Bent's transformation from big Donkey to goal machine was the most startling.

(In fact, if anyone can't remember what Bent was like before Warnock took over, his current form is a good guide...)

I'd agree it's unfair to compare (I didn't actually start the comparison in this thread for what it's worth).

The only thing I'd say is that Warnock transformed the form of many of our players when he came in. Bent is a good example of this. We do actually have a handful of good players in the squad, but Adams has supplemented them with a couple of true donkeys.

I don't deny that he's had a tough hand dealt to him, but he's swapped a pair of 10s for a 2 and a 6 in the time he's been here.

Oh Houso!.....

If you bear in mind the differing situations, which is worse, Warnock's transfer window signings of Shelton and Fathi or Adams' signings of Collins and Doyle? Given the different circumstances, none of these should have been signed when they were. To be fair Warnock signed a fair pile of shit while he was here but he was here a long time, and if shit's all you can afford then that is what you end up with. This approach was always going to get found out eventually.

Shelton & fathi could have been good signings if we'd actually played them, Collins and doyle will never be good signings

Emphasis of the "could". I still think that that (given the respective positions at the time) both sets of signings are bizarre!

>It's extremely difficult to identify the next Lambert in advance
i reckon if your team gets turned over at your own place five nil then it's a no brainer
