The point is Duncs is that KM has made mistake after mistake at united, yet you need to ask yourself, would he (or is he) making the same mistakes in his business. The amount of money he has made suggests he is not so why is it acceptable for him to make so many mistakes here. If he needed someone to be the CEO of his company, you would expect him to hire the best person possible or hire a complay to head-hunt the best person. So why can't he apply the same logic to united?

Not asking for the earth? Well, for a few pounds more, maybe we could get one that might be a bit better. But for a lot more money, we could get one that might be a lot better, yes? ...and thats the logic that has us where we are. Down a hole, trying to shed millions off the wage bill whilst the geniuses have us buying in more players who can't get a game anywhere else, seemingly to prove we have as big a dick as everyone else.

Not learned anything during your sabbatical, I see.

What has got us where we are is selling all of our good players - literally, every single one - over a period of 2 and a half years and replacing them with inferior stopgaps, never will bes and frequently injured crap.

You defended this time and time again. You said we would not be relegated. You were wrong. Presumably you disappeared because it got so bad that even you couldn't defend this asset stripping and lack of investment.

And I should be thankful that McCabe is still here "bankrolling" us? And grateful that a regime like that at, say, Leicester hasn't taken over? Give me a break. I assume that'll be the new mantra: "it could be worse, Carson Yeung could be the owner",. Mind you, I suppose there will have to be a change of tack because "It could be worse, we could end up like Leeds/Charlton/Southampton" has of course come to pass despite us having much less to show for it in terms of PL tenure and "it could be worse, we could end up like Wednesday" won't work because, surprise surprise, they didn't go bust, of course.

Fiery is 100% right. If we don't expend a bit of money now (not a lot - nobody is suggesting that) to get in a couple of players who can contribute we'll spend much more on loans later with worse results. The risks of a thin squad should be there for all to see after the last 2 seasons. I mean, we have played one league game, one, and Porter (this year's crock) and Flynn are already injured.

McCabe has made mistakes and as Dunc points out, he's only human and no-one is right every time, fair enough. However, he repeated the same mistakes of 09/10 in 10/11 and paid the ultimate penalty. What some of us are saying is expenditure now, at a crucial time, could stop us making the same mistake three seasons running.

He's taking a massive gamble that we won't be hit by the same injuries as we have for the last 2 seasons, that the youngsters coming through will be up to the task and that someone will come in for one or two players in the next 21 days. The longer it goes on, and the nearer we get to the end of the month, the harder it will be, even if we do sell one or two.

As I've said above, Kruk wouldn't have been on a massive wage, McDonald may want a relatively decent wage but it sounds like terms have been agreed (therefore within budget), we just can't follow it up with an actual pay packet.

Danny Wilson. 'Ex-pig' he might be, but for good or ill, he's one of ours now. The 'plenty' who will call for his head (and I have no doubt they will at some point) are part of the reason we are here too...

That's funny, I can't recall anyone who chanted for either Blackwell out, or protested against Wilson either making a managerial appointment, signing a cheque or playing a first team game for Sheffield United. THAT is why we are where we are now. All the fans do is pay their money every week. Everyone is entitled to an opinion whetgher you agree with it or not.

What about the 25000 average from 07-10 and the 22000 average we had during last season as we lost over 50% of our games? Are they partly to blame? The 11000+ season ticket holders whonhave committed their money to the club up front? Are they partly to blame if we don't go straight back up?

prediction..
on the deadline day quinn plus one of the youngsters will leave with around 5 minutes to go with no time to get a replacement. kruk and company will finally come in on one year season loans. monty will NOT leave as noone will want to buy him.. i seriously hope i'm wrong..

Down a hole, trying to shed millions off the wage bill whilst the geniuses have us buying in more players who can't get a game anywhere else, seemingly to prove we have as big a dick as everyone else. (Are we really jealous that the piggies have signed Rochdales crocked striker for £350k? Really..? Does no-one remember how/why we bought Ryan France? Lesson, anyone?)

Meanwhile, McCabe has no choice but to underwrite this years losses to the tune of, erm... more than most people earn in a lifetime, and continue to do so on into the future until the big contracts have expired or been shifted out. Yeh, McCabe out. Booooooo..!

Danny Wilson. 'Ex-pig' he might be, but for good or ill, he's one of ours now. The 'plenty' who will call for his head (and I have no doubt they will at some point) are part of the reason we are here too...

Fantastic to have you back Duncs - just what this forum needs, seriously - needs livening up. Still seems you are bemoaning the departure of Blackwell to me in your hilarious last sentence. I'll be supping a toast on the 14th - the anniversary of King Warnock's great 3-0 victory which sent him packing. Love United, Hate McCabe!!

Mccabe does'nt want to sell out to the first asian businessman who comes along and say fek it? Which club was for sale in the Robson how to buy a football club? Oh yes it was Sheffield United and it showed him at the club. If he could sell he would!

Kruk and McDonald are free agents.

WOW... Only made a simple point about who will get the blame if it all goes tit's up,(don't think it will by the way). The quote got jumped on by duncs, who in turn got jumped on by quite a few. I'm bit of a newby to this forum, am I missing somethin or is there history between a few threaders.

Bloody Hell! I didn’t expect the Spanish Inquisition!

If he needed someone to be the CEO of his company, you would expect him to hire the best person possible or hire a complay to head-hunt the best person. So why can't he apply the same logic to united?

Wasn’t this what he did with Trevor Birch, the renowned football finance genius. I'm not close enough to the club to know why Birch failed, but the end result is there to see. Actually, if anything I think McCabe has probably had too little involvement in the day to day at the club. He's appointed people with big reputations, given them freedom and resources and it hasn't worked out...

Yep, sorry Jonboy. Bit of a baptism of fire for you. There has been a bit of a history of strong differences of opinion (or is that outlook on life). We like a bit of a forum ruck, but we love each other really… I had the lowest expectation that ‘absence would make hearts grow fonder’. I haven’t been disappointed… :)

That's funny, I can't recall anyone who chanted for either Blackwell out, or protested against Wilson either making a managerial appointment, signing a cheque or playing a first team game for Sheffield United.

I didn’t say it was the main factor, but I believe the chants for the heads of managers, the booing of the team and individual players and the toxic criticism of everything to do with the club (up to and including car park demos's) does have a negative influence on what happens at the club and therefore how the team performs. That’s all I’m saying. Do you not agree?

Not learned anything during your sabbatical, I see.

Well Rev, I took a break because I felt like I was having the same argument with the same people every day. It started to feel like living with the first Mrs Disorderly again (enough said). Mind you I’m getting feelings of déjà vu right now.

You defended this time and time again.

I thought the sale of the Kyles was very disappointing, but understandable if we had an £8m hole in the cash flow and this was the most opportune way to fill it. Beattie I thought had to go as it was plain we couldn’t afford him. He should have gone the previous summer and would have except for his late ankle injury. That’s not defending, its just accepting the facts and moving on. They are not my decisions so I don’t have to defend anything. I don’t own the club or hold any responsiblity for its actions.

You said we would not be relegated. You were wrong.

You are right. I did think we would scrape out of relegation by a few points. I was wrong. You win a coconut for spotting it.

And I should be thankful that McCabe is still here "bankrolling" us? And grateful that a regime like that at, say, Leicester hasn't taken over?

What is it that drives this bizarre form of penis envy that other clubs are spending more than us? So Leicester has a new Sugar Daddy, so what? What is it that says that we have to be envious of clubs with unsustainable financial models, and that the best solution is for us to have an equally unsustainable financial model. Did the last five years not happen?

Spend more budget we don’t have just to have another couple of bodies who might fill in and give us some games. That’s why squad fillers like France, Taylor and Kozzy were brought in on decent wages. What was their contribution, anyone remember? Are you saying that’s what we should do again, only with even cheaper players..? Where does that leave your point about ‘asset-stripping’ and replacing players with lesser ones?

Top, top stuff Rev.

Oh Mic! Still clapping like a seal when someone smarter than you writes something you agree with. Just like old times ;)

I'll be supping a toast on the 14th - the anniversary of King Warnock's great 3-0 victory which sent him packing. Love United, Hate McCabe!!

So you support the club, but celebrate our defeats? Strange boy…

Great to see you back Dunc and I hope your experience is better this time. Sadly I think anyone who puts themselves on either extreme is "going to get it".

I have to say your line of "he's human, he makes mistakes" should win a prize in the understatement of the century competition.

When he eventually gets a decsion right you really should make hay whilst the sun shines!....:D
