You've stuttered along since you decided to sack Danny Wilson on 10 April and save yourself a potentially difficult couple of hours at a fans forum two evenings later.
You've took it upon yourself to approach, then appoint a Blades legend as temporary team manager for the remainder of the season. In the seven games that he was in charge, only two of those merited a performance in keeping with what is expected at Sheffield United. However, due to the tools he was given, in no way was this the fault of Chris Morgan.
At the same time and by dodging a bullet yourself, you've unfairly thrown a bloke with genuine coaching and managerial aspirations, into an impossible situation , the results of which could genuinely damage his future attempts at getting into club management.
You knew full well that Morgs would never have turned down such a challenge, thereby placing one of your most loyal employees into the firing line when promotion was not achieved.
You've welcomed a former director who previously walked out on the club, back into the fold in order to oversee the appointment of the next Team Manager. As Julian Winter trotted out the soundbites and comments that a politician would be proud of, his "model" seems to be proving difficult to piece together.
The reported "Magnificent Seven" candidates appear to have ridden off into the sunset, each of them taking a story to tell when the time arrives in the future.
Should ever they be asked: "So, why didn't you go for the managers job at Sheffield United in 2013?" I suspect Mr McCabe, that each of them will answer in a similar manner:
"The club is great with shitloads of potential. The fans are there and in place, waiting for someone to light the blue touch paper that would take them and the club upwards and beyond. The stadium and infrastructure easily falls into a Premier League set up. Teams who once feared going to Bramall Lane now turn up and collect points without breaking sweat and their fans wonder what has happened to a once proud club. Yet strangely, the only people who aren't aware of this situation are the people running the club!! They couldn't give a toss about the future and they care even less about being a great club once again."
So Mr McCabe, Mr Winter et al. Two managers have already gone public and said they dont want the job. Even a fucking Aussie has come out of the woodwork today and perhaps, given you the kick up the arse that you need to appoint the right man and give us all a bit of hope.
It's up to you all now, what are you gonna do about it?
