Last season Bettis wanted Hecky to get the role permanently. Although Hecky said he didn't want to be a first team manager anymore, he also said if he had been offered it, it would have been very hard to turn down.

However the Prince overruled Bettis and I think i recall princey saying somewhere down the line partially based on the fans questioning ambition giving Hecky the job permanently.

Looks like Bettis has got his wish come true in the end tho.

Been mega busy at work today, logged on oblivious to all this and WTF.

We've sacked a proven championship manager after a few months, of albeit poor results, but without time to get the players and system he wanted. Then we've given a 4.5 year deal to an unproven guy, no offence to him.

It's beyond comprehension to me.

Happy Birthday, Hal. We share the same birthday but sadly I'm rather older (born in 1954) so I have suffered a lot more heartache than you following the Blades over the years!

Like most I was shocked by today's news but on reflection I think it's undeniable that Slav (for whatever reason) wasn't getting his ideas across & getting performances from this set of players.

Could I see a top 6 finish if we stayed with him at the helm? I don't think so.

Hecky is a cheap solution & I fear it is the lack of finance which yet again drags us down (sales of Jones/Birchenall/Currie/Deane/Fjortoft) all in my lifetime - the Blades have forever sold the family silver due to lack of funds...

Tough day. Let's stick together as a fan base. Happy Birthday again.
