With regards to Megson let's remember his performance during and after the Battle of Bramall Lane. His comments were disgraceful and fit the standards for libel had Warnock wanted to go down that route. I don't even care about his pig connections; it's that single day that makes me despise the obnoxious prick.

I don't think it's going to happen. Megson was talking about us earlier on Sky and he mentioned two times that he was a Wednesday fan, if he was interested he'd have played it smarter.

Apparantly he's still getting well paid off at Bolton too.

Plus, I don't think our board are THAT daft.

ABsolutely, I wouldn't go if Megson was to be appointed. The man is horrible.

I'd love SoD, but it's imperitive that we give him time (or Mowbray for that matter) if we go down that sort of route. I'd hate to see us bring someone like that in then hound them out after half a season. A proper rebuilding job is going to take two seasons minimum. It'd be brilliant to get a proper footballing team out there on the pitch, centred around a fantastic midfielder in Britton. It'd be an absolute breath of fresh air. As much as it pains me to say so, we need to get away from the Morgans, Montgomery's, Cresswells and start playing in the modern era.

Probably going to be the most important appointment for a long while.

"Isn't a good coach one who does exactly what the manager tells him to do, rather than what he thinks should be done?"

Sorry got to disagree.

He took a contract off us at the end of his career when he was past it. He's just a mercenary like the lot of em [players and managers alike] but some have either more bottle or integrity than others [O'Neill + Coppell] and walk out when things aren't right.

The fact that he is happy to either sit back and watch the shit whilst pocketing the cash or even worse be behind delivering the shit is reason for him to go along with Ellis.

Dont go along with this notion that it takes a couple of seasons to get the team playing. It did not take KB that long and I dont think that a decent manager will.Technique, tactics and motivation will see us in the mix at seasons end.....oh and a bit of luck!

He took a contract off us when we offered it him, whilst not quite at the end of a career spent making regular solid appearances in the top flight. His intention would be to still be playing now, but for his injury.

Just because we weren't in a position to take him in his prime doesn't mean he signed on purely to take the piss out of us.

Does it take more bottle to quit or to fight on? I'd say the jurys out really. I'd hazard a guess that if Blackwell, Speed or any of the backroom team had done a Coppell they'd be getting labeled as quitters, cowards etc.

How far do we take it? because I'd say the players were also responsible, shall we find a way to sack them all too?

Coppell is on record as having suffered from what's euphemistically called "stress related illness" when he quit Man City. Perhaps he's relapsed a bit. Who knows?

My image of a quitter is Steve Bruce. He didn't get the money he wanted to spend so just chucked his toys out. At least Blackwell fought on.

Regardless of the reasoning behind his situation, I think that's exactly what would have happened if any Blades employees did the same.

Having a laugh aren't you? haven't you seen one of his legendary "I'm not a quitter" interviews? :D

I wanted Paul Hart when Warnock got the job, now I'm not that sure.

Mowbray for me.

Good shout Grumps.
Has proved his worth with WBA and plays the right way.
Since his failure at Celtic he should be affordable and within the sort of budget we can afford.

Boring to listen to but seems to be a solid charachter.

Oh yes - totally agree with the first point.

As for the second, I really don't remember that! I'll just never forgive him for thinking he was bigger than SUFC. That and for making me watch Michael Twiss.

Nope. That would be a 'yes' man. That said 'managing' is different from 'coaching'. That may be why Blackwell hasn't performed as well as we'd hoped, or with other sides. He was acknowledged as being a decent coach under Warnock, but seems to be lacking a great deal as a manager.

How many here would still have a job if they constantly told the boss he was shit and didn't know what he was doing?

To be picky, that would depend somewhat on the managerial set-up, but when I first started managing a team (not in football!), the two things which were drilled into me were,

"Listen to those you manage as they work, but pretend you're not listening.", and

"Now you're managing, let them above and them below what your thoughts are."

The first meaning the obvious "keep 'em peeled" sort of thing, to nip any hassle in the bud, and the second (and to me more important) meaning "You're managing on someone else's premise. If you think you're leading a team in the wrong way, you'd best say something."

Now granted the world of sport is too full of egos for that to be entirely useful (I suspect), but the principle remains the same. If you don't approach management with problems, they can't be solved. If there is a problem.

Mmmm, time to get real on the Speed issue. He bides his time, keeps his thoughts and ideas to himself, and waits until he's given the opportunity to try them out. Just like all the rest of us would. Anyone else prepared to give up their ideas and thoughts to keep the boss in a job and themselves out of it?

Here's the rub. Speed can afford to say what the hell he wants. Most of we plebs can't. All the time. I'll bet that Speed could get a side which is more attractive on a CV right away. I'll bet he has had more than enough input, but again, as a coach. Not a manager.

Coppell has jumped ship at almost every opportunity possible. Search "Coppell" and "syphillis" on here and you'll find my thesis. It needs updating with Bristol City as well, mind you. Leaving Brentford for the reasons he gave was unforgiveable.
