Real lift winning last night but Christmas can be notorious for throwing up odd results (e.g. 3-0 away defeat at Oxford under Bassett); what has far more bearing in the long run are the games against fellow top teams.

Go back to 2011/12 and the points dropped against CAFC/SWFC; critical, we didn't beat any of them (3rd).

2005/06 Didn't beat Reading and they won the league but did ok against Leeds and Watford (2nd).

1989/90 Last minute equaliser against Newcastle from Deano was massive (2nd).

1988/89 Unbeaten against Wolves and Vale, especially 3-3 critical (2nd).

So far this year one loss/one draw against BWFC/SUFC and whilst yes the top 3 could change, the chances are at this stage the two home games against them will be the most critical of all.

Point is, whatever happens over the holiday period, there are more influential games to come; so nothing decided good or bad. UTB.

We have got 3 games over the festive period, Oldham H, Northampton H and Bury A. 3 games we should really be winning and winning comfortably given given the current form.

Given that Bolton and Scunthorpe play each other over the festive period that would move us up to at least 2nd, and it also leaves an excellent chance that we will end up top of the table with a small cushion of points over the next placed team.

It would also leave us with 53 points from 25 games. For me 90 points is usually the benchmark for anyone who wants automatic promotion, and we would have to be very unlucky not to get promoted with that on the board. It would leave us requiring 37 points from 21 games, which amounts to winning 12 and drawing 1 out of the last 21.

For what it is worth I below that Scunthorpe will drop off from now on as they lack strength in depth, and the word on the grapevine is that they have been found out a little and don't have a plan B, where we have a stronger depth and although we have have been found out a little, we are still too strong for many teams to be able to counter our strengths, the slide is also beginning a bit for Scunthorpe, and I think Bolton will be forced in to a fire sale of their best players given their financial difficulties, leaving them in the difficult position of replacing their best players from the bargain basement and us in already a lot stronger position that either of them, because if we have to sell, then the money will be used to replaced whoever we have to sell, and if we did have to sell at any point, I'm fairly positive that Wilder has had the nous to already have in mind who he would bring in to replace anyone he might potentially lose.

So back to the OP, I don't really agree with the point about the 6 pointers. I think the more pressing need is to win the next three games and go in to the second half of the season as the team to catch, however supporting the Blades is seldom that straight forward.......

Fair points made and I obviously hope you are right. If you are then my case is wrong but if not and they don't drop away then history tells me that at the very least we can't afford to lose either game.

I just wanna go to Plastics having all ready done it. Not bothered how.

All fair points made above but in reality its one game at a time. Having said that its comforting to know that Scunny have to play Bolton. A game both sets of fans are`nt really relishing I bet.

Yep, let`s stick with the one game at a time philosophy.
