It's a fine thumb and I agree that it needs recognising by the club :D

Looks dodgy and a bit bent. Make it a Director :D

Some maginficent away days following the Blades and Dave Basset ......

The 2 - 5 (i fink) mauling of Forest, including the right foot volley from John Gannon :)
A fantastic game, Mike 'Zico' Lake scored one or his classic goals. I couldn't stop myself celebrating even though I was in the Forest end.

I wasn't alive during Bassett's time in charge, but when you hear stories or watch videos from his time in charge here, he still has a special place in my heart, he helped form the Sheffield United I love, so incredibly thankful to him for everything he's done for the club. Hopefully he's welcomed onto the pitch pre match

Some of my best memories with Bassett in charge,to take us from div 3 to div 1 with back to back promotions with the squad he inherited was nothing short of a miracle.
Deano £40k,Agana £30k,Tracey £12.5k,free transfers Booker,Gannon etc it was a great period being a blade at that time.

The miracle turnaround of 1991 was one of the finest managerial achievements I have witnessed. 4 points after 16 games and the second half of the season saw only Arsenal win more points. All done with pretty much the same team. Amazing, just simply amazing and the day at QPR that sealed our safety (with games remaining) is still a highlight. I was bang in line with Bob Bookers headed winner. A great night in London followed!!

Nothing has come close, even Warnock taking us back to the PL, to the highlights Dave Bassett delivered.

Now.......I wonder if he's worked out who the zone man is yet?

i find the 2 statues odd. Dooley was a great man and did a wonderful job at SUFC in some tricky times. Joe Shaw was a superb defender (best ever maybe) by all accounts and a great servant. Think likes of Foulke, Gillespie, Needham probably were too long ago but for me the two who need statues if any are Hagan and Currie.

Our greatest ever 2 players post War. Do not think many would argue. Seems bizarre they have been overlooked (know Hagan has a bust somewhere does he not?) but they have got that wrong for me.

I was a bit puzzled by the Dooley statue, no doubt a great man behind the scenes, a lovely man to work with by all accounts, but statues should be Blades legends who have thrilled the paying public, in my view anyway

great day , even won 25 quid at cards in the Springbok before the game

I was directly behind the goal , looking for my brother who had been ejected for throwing his pie in the air in a moment of great joy

he was generally good for the club , but as you say theres more deserving individuals

I have a signed football, signed by that that team, Bassett, Agana, Deane, etc.

Do agree with you on this but where does the number of statues end.
You under estimate the number of games Joe Shaw played and the quality of the player who without doubt should have played for his country.
UTB

He did yes, just after the third went in only wearing his underpants.
He evaded four stewards and a St John's Ambulance girl, dived into the Kop and crowd surfed to the top, started a chorus of "Shoreham Boys" and hasn't been seen since.

Dooley was a great man and his ties to both sides of the city should see his statue moved to somewhere on Dooley Way [perhaps the mid point between the grounds] to mark his achievements.

We can then use the plinth for a statue of the bloke who scores the winning goal for us in the 2024 European Cup Final.
