1=0 2=1 3=2

we seem to have great difficulty in accepting these as proper wins these days

4=1 over Villa , just about good enough

but just out scoring another team over 90 minutes

ooohhh not good enough, now ,

LOOK AT ANY PROMOTION YEAR AND THE MAJORITY OF WINS ARE BY THE ODD GOAL

Youd never think it with the level of expectation of some in here

Just goes to show

its amazing how we are 4th despite being so inept , in some eyes´

1-0, 2-1, 3-2, 4-3, 5-4, 989,768 - 989,767, I don't care what it is. It's not the 3-0 win, it's the stupidity of changing a team that isn't in the slightest trouble at 2-0 with a pointless substitution personnel wise and positionally that then nearly loses three points. Well done Blades, played well for 80, but WTF was that substitution about? Still seething about it.

I think it's fair to say we were woeful for a third of that game and that the things that went wrong seemed completely self inflicted.

I can also say I'm delighted we won and think it's been a reasonably good start to the year.

I can also say we've lost our 3 toughest games and have the profile of a mid table side

Its not all black and white

Preston were absolutely awful, and rock bottom. We nearly did an excellent job of blowing that completely - that's why some are a bit frustrated. I can honestly say i didn't enjoy that last 30 minutes one bit - we were poor.

I totally agree with you.

I think that when you sweep the uncomfortable things under the carpet, just because the result turned out your way in the end, you are avoiding reality.

If we'd lost that (and we easily could have done, to the worst team in the league right now) or drawn it, opinions would be very different.

We should really examine our prospects of success, not on the result, but on the way we played.

And we played like World Champions for an hour - then piss pot poor for the rest of it.

We got out of jail today. Great that we did! But to nearly not win against a team like that is also concerning.

You could see we were getting overrun in midfield and something had to change. We maybe changed too much to the point that it confused the hell out of us and seemed to have a larger negative effect. If i was Lundstram i would be feeling a little nervous that I wasn't brought on to "shore-up" the midfield.
I think CW will see it as another learning curve - thank god Johnson saved our blushes. If we'd have been on our game then Preston wouldn't have complained if that ended 5 or 6 nil.

JOHNSON?

yes, points well made. I thought we were comfortable at 2-0 even though Johnson had come on and they'd started to see more of the ball.

The idea seemed ok, push Basham into that space, but the rest of the team seemed to totally lose shape and understanding of their roles. We were a bit lucky to win even though we were the best side for 80 minutes.

lessons learned hopefully. As far as blade too long comments. I know you watch these games on a TV feed and it can be hard to see the loss of shape when you aren't there but it was a bit of a shambles for 10 minutes, and looked like we were trying to chuck away 3 points.

I'd hope no one is being too critical, (I've only just logged on ) as these players and the manager still have plenty of credit in the bank for most fans I'd hope. It's been the most enjoyable football I've seen in a very long time at the lane

Jheez you really have taken this to heart haven’t you?

What’s the point of a forum if we aren’t allowed to discuss legitimate observations from the game?

Truth is we really should have managed that game better but no one is saying that we won’t accept it. People are just making observations from the game and discussing them which is basically the whole point of the forum.

I’m pretty sure CW and the back room staff have made similar observations from today’s game. Difference is you would hope they would look to improve how we manage games in the future.

so no other teams had a bad 10 minutes
didnt leeds have a rather bad 10 minutes against birmingham today
did not boro have a bad 10 minutes at norwich
didnt wigan have a bad 10 minutes at brentford

all teams have lapses as we have 1 and 2 m pound players
teams in the prem , spurs had a bad 10 minutes in milan
they cost 40 times more than our team

I don’t care how we win personally as long as we win. I think it’s better than the other two alternatives, and if I’m entertained as well it’s all gravy.

The bottom line for me is that yes, we were poor for 25 minutes today, but that is a game we would have drawn or lost in January-April last season.

But we didn't. We won. We've improved and shown bottle and nerve to right a wrong result.

How many Premier League titles under Ferguson did Man Utd win by continuously, over the course of a season, having games they "shouldn't have won" but did win 1-0 or 2-1?

I do think that we should just enjoy a win sometimes. Bristol and other teams have stolen wins against us and their fans just seem to accept the good fortune and even enjoy it more. We weren’t one bit lucky today, just a bit sloppy for a short period in the game. It happens.

We should be like the Pork and celebrate a 0-0 ‘win’ like it really was one. ;)
