Silly Jose Baxter

Played behind a striker with CM covering him he always plays really well. Offers something many don't have and can unlock tight defences. Good example of linking with a forward from his best position was P'Boro where he and Sparky were class together.

List Baxters strengths against weaknesses and see the longer column.
No doubts which one in my mind....

Exactly! It's even more frustrating that the weaknesses he has (i.e. fitness and concentration) should be the fundamental attributes of any professional football player.

I am new to this so finding my feet with how it works but as shocked as one or two are with my comment that he is overweight and unfit .... I am ( shocked) that you can't see it.

I will agree that his physique doesn't help but I will wager that if there was a poll that asked ..is Baxter fit enough?? Then there would be more no votes than yes.

Frustration for me is that he really has talent and can do things that others can't but his lack of fitness is definitely holding him back

Just saying ...

I like Baxter, very talented and able. Worth persevering with. Usually calm under pressure and has vision, plays some lovely balls and can change direction of play quickly. He doesn't have pace but one of our more talented players. I actually didn't see the sending off today, reading my phone for other scores, but the reaction of fans around me suggests it was a definite sending off. Wonder what he was thinking ?

Baxter can play I don't think there is any doubt about that but .

I dispute it!
I've never seen any evidence :?
Last 15 minutes against Soton were he was fouled repeatedly (because he's too slow to get away) is the best I've ever seen him.

He will never play regularly above League 1. His lack of pace has nothing to do with weight, he just doesn't have and never will have pace.

His sloppiness outweighs the great things he can do.

I wouldn't rush to have him back in the starting line up.

Time to see what other alternatives can drive us forward.

Because they can see it with their own eyes?

No doubt the club for all the players with have a set diet and food intake regime . Baxter just has not got the build of a athlete you see these days . 20 years ago , nobody would notice or be bothered , if the player did the business . Whether or not Baxter gets back in the team , after his suspension , will depend how the results go and any injuries.

I agree entirely Bos. When I say overweight I don't mean by the "man on the clapham omnibus" standards (I would make him look waif like!) but I mean as compared to what he is, a professional footballer. I don't think people could honestly argue against that

My first choice side he plays behind Done, Infront of Doyle +1, flanked by Murphy and Flynn.

Can do as many votes as you like, check his BMI, if he was overweight he wouldn't play.

It's clear he is your favourite player - I get that and we are all entitled to have one and our own opinion.

Therefore I am entitled to mine and that is he is not fit enough to warrant a place

Nah I'd have to go Flynn.

Thing is it's not a matter of opinion, he's either overweight or he's not. To settle this we need a BMI figure from the club.

Like today you mean ?apart from JCR for Flynn.
My problem is people remember a great pass against Preston or a tackle against Southampton ,or a heard v Donny ,simply because he does it so infrequently.

Personally I don't think his physical attributes are his problem ,I think its mental ,I don't know him but he looks to me to have either a very lazy ,laidback attitude or an arrogant 'Im too good for this shit' ,whichever one it is ,it is letting him down big time ,he hasn't produced at all this season despite the efforts of Clough to accommodate him in the side. Im not saying we have better footballers but we have better and more influential players who can do a better job for us. He needs to get his head sorted out and decide what he really wants to do ,because at the moment its not enough and he could cost us promotion.

I can't see Baxter ever playing above League One which is a shame really as I do think he has talent but for long periods in games he goes missing, in today's game talent will only take you so far. He has let everyone down badly today, in the end a point was OK but a win would have been a great result looking at how some of the top 4 teams dipped today.

Both bad , The Wrath of God and The Wrath of Clough .

We'll be better off without him for the next 3 games. We didn't lose any defensive running after he'd been sent off anyway, he doesn't do any!

I remember him running back and putting in a superb tackle on Ryan Mason in the cup semi against Spurs, I think he does it when he can be arsed, which is pretty much never. Great potential but underachieving too much for me.

Another point to make which often gets forgotten due to him not being from our academy and having been known for a while: he's only just turned 23, not much older than McNulty but he's given slack and there's plently of talk of him being young and one for the future.

He's been unfit for a professional athlete since he joined us.

He's generally lazy as well

He's unbalanced the side from day 1 (which is not his fault)

I'm 38. If I spent my entire week with nothing to do but train, I'd be able to put a shift in once a week without looking like I've had 10 pints the night before.

The first two attributes are unforgivable for me. I don't care who you are or how talented you are, if you're not going to give 100% every game and be in peak physical fitness then you can fuck off.

I think he was very good last season hence the chant Jose Baxter baby but since he was injured he is unfit. I cant believe anyone disagrees!! When i went to the Oldham match having not seen him since he came back the first thing I said to my brother was "how fat is Baxter". He must do well in training as Nigel obviously rates him but contributes little in matches.

Another thing: among the favourite moans of the moronic contingent of our fan base is people passing it 'backwards and sideways'. Those same people will undoubtably moan at Baxter when he tries a difficult forward pass and say he gives away the ball too much.

Today it is hard to defend Baxter for that tackle but I do find it ironic that so many criticise him for not tackling and then round on him when he puts one in and makes a mistake. Tackling is not in Baxter's comfort zone and now they know why.

To call Baxter unfit "since he came to the club" is a criticism of Clough who has workrate, dedication and application at the top of his agenda.

If we do well without the lad for the next three games then he will deserve to warm the bench for a while. That's football and he'll have no complaints. Some on here might think he'll enjoy the rest on the bench as well as the suspension, more opportunity to laze around, "that's all he's about you know".

The only time he seems to put a shift in is when he's on tv. He then looks like a sweaty mess who has been on the pop the night before.

It's not acceptable for any pro footballer to not be able to run around for 90 minutes, Him and Higdon need to do one if they aren't serious about football.

Stupid tackle by Baxter, but watching the midfield settle down in that brief Jose cameo he started playing off Doane then as the game settled he sat in front of the two centre halves and let Doyle and Coutts switch between central and attacking midfield slots.

It started to look like a proper midfield then Jose puts that tackle in. rash and stupid. Really could've cost us but captain Doyle and Basham ran that midfield like real leaders

He's not overweight. He just doesn't have the physique of an althlete, and it will stop him becoming a top player. He is slow, and his engine is non existant. Surely that bit isn't up for debate?

UTB

Reminds me of frank lampard for his physique
