"There has been a bit of good news this week in that a player we have been chasing for some time might be becoming available.
"I don't want to show my hand for obvious reasons - and in case it doesn't come to fruition - but the manager involved has been talking with his chairman so it might happen."
Blackwell is acutely aware of the clamour from some fans for fresh blood, but again points out that he will not panic and resort to throwing money away merely to silence them:
"I know some supporters are becoming frustrated and impatient about a new signing, particularly since Michael Tonge went, but I can reassure them that I will make that signing, it is just a case of getting the right man at the right time.
"There are things I want to do at this football club as regards players - and I will do - but it is worth waiting for a player who will benefit Sheffield United this season, and in the next two or three, hopefully in the Premiership.
"Yes, I am working on some things in the short term as well but the sort of player we want is someone who can make the sort of impact that Michael Brown did when he came."
