What the fuck were the club thinking in the summer when they signed Hamer, Thomas, Larrouci, Archer, Mcatee and Traore? All way too small and weak for the Premier League. The number of tackles we shit out of yesterday was criminal. Unless you have a team of small players who are ultra technical (like Barcelona 15 years ago), how on earth did they think we'd compete? Even the taller players we signed (Vini, Trusty and the invisible man Slimane) are as soft as shit. If we didn't have much money, we should have got big athletic players in and tried to bully our way to some victories (like Luton). Lumping it up to Archer every game isn't going to get us many points. Every game we've played this season it's been like men v boys. Absolutely shocking decision from Hecky and the club to sign the players we did.

The recruitment at United is the single biggest problem. A pretty big issue for a club with a "sell to buy" model. We are totally dependent on the academy bringing through gems; when we go on the market we lose money on almost every player we sign.

Absolutely correct, also have this weeks top prize for the title thread ! Brilliant. The top prize is a ticket to the best stadium in the world with a constant showing of 50.000,it’s in Sheffield S2 .

If little old DB could have told you that, I find it impossible to understand why our management and recruitment teams did not !!

Sadly !!!!!!

Agreed. A complete and utter shambles. Our budget was already measly by premier league standards and to invest a sizeable chunk of it on Traore and Slimane, who aren’t even trusted to contribute from the bench, is utterly baffling.

Spending our limited funds on development players, along with the decision to sell Ndiaye and Berge so close to first game of the season, was further proof Abdullah had written off this season before it had even begun.

As for our use of the loan market. How many times did we hear the old line that ‘we’re waiting until late in the window so that we can sign the best domestic loans’? Then we sign Luke Thomas. A piss-poor reserve championship left back. Lowe was injured late in the summer but you’re telling me that Thomas was the best option? The only foreign loan is another left back who we were competing with Preston to sign, who again cannot be trusted to play.

Our owner doesn’t have much money and he can’t be criticised for that, but in that case we surely had to make better use of the loan market and spend what money we did have more wisely. Whoever scouted Souza and sanctioned spending £10m on him should be moved on quickly.

Can't disagree with that,
Lack of physicality becomes more evident with every defeat.
Wemust have looked at what was happening in the premiership and apart from standards going up! Physicality has gone through the roof ( land of the giants who are not just big but are physical with it and can play ) we get bullied every match with no chance of giving it back! apart from Baldock who runs a tightrope every match

It does make you wonder what they were planning bringing in these small players who will find competing in the championship no walk in the park.
Athletism is the name of the game today ! Where are ours.
Luton have a squad more suitable to premiership! They are athletes ,mainly big lads with physicality and are competing far better than us and Burnley.
Just where have we been looking this last window?

I’ve been on the AI again, gazed into its crystal ball and asked for a team that would scare the opposition and make Bramall Lane a fortress again.

It came up with this ……….

Remember after Wilder left when the board were so keen on telling us we had all these foreign superstars lined up that Wilder blocked in favour of domestic talent? Well I think the summer transfer window all but proved that was a load of bollocks. In fact since Wilder left we've only signed one overseas player that could be deemed a decent signing and that was only because Lester previously worked with him!
