Talking about class and respect I think back to our 2-1 relegation defeat at the hands of Wigan in 2007.

The Wigan fans were very complementary about our fans.
Instead of being angry and wanting to fight, many were congratulating Wigan on beating us and staying up.
That day many Wigan fans said they’d love to see us return to the PL.

When they beat Leeds the other week it made me think “what took em so long to return the favour”

I remember coming away from the play-off final vs Wolves and stopping for food and running into a few of their fans. They were incredibly gracious and sympathetic. I also remember coming away from losing to Arsenal after that goal where the ref took out Tonge, and some of their fans telling me how well we'd done and how unlucky we were.

Pissed me off more than if they'd tried to wind me up, patronising twats.

I've been waiting a long time for my chance to do it to someone.

Funny how it works out, isn't it? Ipswich down and their 'nearest & dearest' (Norwich) go up. Last season, West Brom down, Wolves up. Swansea down, Cardiff up.

This season Blades up, pigs stuck in mid-table mediocrity, FFP and an old, overpaid squad to demolish. Really feel for them...

Interesting one this. I respect all genuine football fans, even those from across S6 (there are decent ones you know). However, Ipswich fans were baying for Mick McCarthy out not all that long ago and he worked a miracle in keeping them up. Rather than goading them I would suggest they are living proof of being careful what you wish for. Whatever the case though relegation hurts and having a bit of class never goes amiss in my opinion.

I do have a lot of respect for teams like Ipswich, being a bit older than most, I can remember their halcyon days when Mangers like Alf Ramsey and Bobby Robson were both stand out Division One Managers, and took them to great heights in those past days of glory.

It will be a sad day when they are relegated, and I personally hope they will rise from the ashes.

I can see similarities between them and us, although I think our best days are not over, but ahead of us. I wish them well, and hope they can turn the corner and come straight back to the PL where they belong. When of course, and if they do get back to the PL, I hope we kick the crap out of them then.

Ipswich were elected to Division 3 South in 1938 and stayed there until the mid 50's, gaining promotion to Division 2 in 1954, then relegated again the following season. In 1955 they appointed Alf Ramsey as manager and he took them to the First Division title by 1962. They've been in the top two divisions ever since.
