There were the usual noisy minority in shoutbox this afternoon. You know who I am talking about. We are still strong play off contenders,we are in the League Cup semis and are about to strengthen our squad (a lot of fans do not understand the strict FFP rules) and I am confident Nige will take us up!

Well said, nice to have some realism even after a defeat

Maybe we will hammer Spurs and get to the final then go on and win the play-offs as well.

I am happy to eat my hat when that happens.

Bit of balance needed here I think. I'm as chuffed as anyone with our cup performances, I am however completely underwhelmed by our league form. My minimum (bare minimum) expectation for this season was to be placed in the top six.....

We are currently 7th. Sorry, cup run or not....that ain't good enough.

Waste of time talking to the narrow minded minority

Your acceptance of the dire league form suggests that you're more narrow minded than others maybe. Have you polled every Blade out there? What are the numbers that back up your "minority" statement?

In Clough we trust, with our eyes wide shut and our expectations at rock bottom

1 win in 8 in the league
1 win in the league at home since October 21st
Not even in the play off positions
Didn't make the goalkeeper work again today
Sure, that's all positive and rosy in the garden then, let's celebrate :)

We can still make the top two ;) just wait till we sign COG and Brayford for a million pounds each then add Coutts and Freeman and we will win every game 6-0 ;););)

Put a Clough In or Out Poll on here and you'd get the answer

Delighted with the cup performances but the league performances are unacceptable. Automatic promotion should be the aim this season, we aren't even in the play offs.

We're the same three players short of automatic promotion contention that we were in September. The nearly men haven't stepped up to fill the breach so nothing will change until they do so or we buy someone else. Higdon as your second striking option is not what automatic promotion seasons are made of.

Playoffs here we come.

When did losing become a way of life. Take every game in it's merit and today was unacceptable, to me anyway as a blade who wants out of this division. Unless some money is spent, we won't get promoted! But hey, we got to the semi's of a league cup so it was a success to a few on here.

I said at the time, and have said again a few times since. Clough tried to make too many changes that weren't needed. All we had to do was replace Maguire, Brayford and Coady. Instead we signed numerous, average League 1 players, giving us a largely average League 1 squad.

All momentum from last season was lost as soon as Clough tried to make the point that he didn't need Collins and Doyle in the first game of the season. It hasn't got much better since then.

Not strictly true. We had no strikers of any note. I agree with your overall point though, he has made a complete hash of it.

No, but we had the team to compensate for the lack of strikers. None of the three players I mentioned were reluctant to drive forward when the opportunity arose.

By getting in and around the box they made chances for themselves and others by taking players with them.

We don't have that dynamism and willingness to flood the box this season. That's partly down to instructions and partly down to not having the personnel to do it.

I think you are dreaming...today did not fill me with any hope whatsoever

6 months ago Wendy fan at work predicted that we would finish 5th but will win the play offs. He did predict that we would beat QPR....

I've given the first part of that a like. But as for the "complete hash"... Nah. Until we know what Clough's budget was we can't know whether it was ever possible to replace the quality that was Harry, Brayford and Coady.

You are right but even in the great run we had we were only scoring 1 or 2 goals. Teams who win automatic promotion score lots more goals than we were at that time.

Basham for Coady, Alcock for Brayford, Butler or McGahey speaks for itself though as you say.

I'm pretty sure signing zero players on permanent deals in the JTW wont trouble the FFP rules.
