We all know that Ched is out of contract at the end of this season and that many SUFC fans are still pretty mixed about him. So should we offer Ched a new deal?
YES WE SHOULD BECAUSE ...
- He's now happy and settled at the club and is scoring goals galore (albeit in League 1)
- We paid a lot of money out for Ched and it'd be a shame to lose him now as he looks to be reaching his potential
- We now play football that suits his style of play and he'd be much more suited to the Championship in this team
NO WE SHOULDN'T BECAUSE ...
- He might be scoring now but he's done next to nothing for the last two seasons
- We've spent (up to) £3m and (up to) £20,000 per week on him for three years - time to cut our losses
- He's not up to Championship football, he's found his level
- There are other issues outside his football that could embarrass SUFC in the future
I'd like SUFC to offer Ched some kind of deal now and try and keep him at the club. As a club, we've stuck with Ched over the last few months when he's been accused of some pretty horrendous things and given the money we've spent on him, some would suggest he still owes us the best of Ched Evans. He isn't going to get a £20,000 per week contract anywhere else at the end of the season and I think his form justifies a gamble or two from McCabe. At the end of the season, Ched could leave for nothing. However, we could offer him a good deal (say £10,000 a week) with a clause that if we don't get promotion, we'll give him the free transfer that he'd have got from being out of contract in the summer. If we go up, he stays with SUFC and looks to build on his League 1 form by firing us up the Championship table as well.
