This match has been chosen by the FA as one of 6 (I think it's 6) matches to celebrate the fact that the Football League is 125 years old this season.

The reason is that the world's oldest professional football club is playing at the world's oldest professional football ground which I think is worth celebrating especially as we are in it!

I reckon that both teams should play in their traditional kit, the Blades in red and white stripes (or even our original kit! - maybe not) and Notts County in black and white stripes just out of respect for the tradition.

I'm sure Sky will have some excuse about their customers that have black and white tellies not being able to tell which team is which...... :D - twots! :(

I think it would be great to see and if there are sufficient people in favour, maybe the powers that be can be alerted and maybe we'll see Notts County in their traditional kit - I'm not saying we have to revert to baggy shorts and "caseys" by the way! ;)

I voted yes...... :)

Anything is better than that pink thing they wore last season

It will all depend on the design of both our kits which obviously havent been released yet.

They will still have to change their shorts though as black clashes with errm black !!

If we are talking respect then let United change so that County can play in their true colours.

I agree, respect is the key issue and it would send out entirely the wrong message about United if they were not to enter into the spirit of the occasion.

Notts County can enjoy their day in the limelight and concentrate on being the oldest professional team in the world as they trot out on to the hallowed turf. Meanwhile United can hopefully concentrate on getting three points.

Notts County's first known colours were amber and black hooped shirts, dating from the 1870s. This was followed by short spells playing in amber, then chocolate and blue halves. In 1890 the club adopted black and white striped shirts, and have played in these colours for most of the rest of their history.

I'd say no to both sides wearing their traditional stripes. The reason being because I'm colour blind and from a distance the colours aren't as vivid and look very similar.

Make players from both sides comb a centre parting, sport a significant moustache and the goalies wear woolly polo necks (green obviously) and flat caps. Paperback books down the socks optional. And management teams to wear waistcoats and watch chains please....

Have a bloke with mutton chop sideburns run onto the pitch at half time to shout "Gadzooks! Lee's been whipped at Gettysburg!"

It's the referee's decision if he thinks there's a potential clash...

That is actually correct. Both clubs have to contact the referee 4 days before the game and inform him of which kit they wish to wear. If he feels that there is a clash then he and ask the away side to change.

*Not sure if true or not but I was told by a senior FA official a while ago that a little known fact is that in the Premier League the champions can play in their "home" kit for all matches if they insist and the home side much change if there is a clash and they insist on it. That would kill Man Ure's commercial arm!

If we're going for that, how about having 1880 beer and pie prices?

Yeah, why don't they pull down the South Stand, reinstate the Cricket Pitch and rebuild the pavilion, I know where the clock is I'm sure they'll have the rest of it somewhere. Supporters can play their part by traveling on't tram, bringing a rattle, smoking tabs and pissing down the terracing... Hurrah

Again, to add to sentiments earlier in this thread..fuck the fa, man ure and the premier league

this btw from the whybet?® football league advertising that purports to show all the new shirts for next season. Unless someone can point it out to me, ours is missing.... (there is only owhybet-football-league-kit-montage113-928684.jpg ne photo on there and its a red&white striped adidas sunday league strip, quite glad SUFC are making life hard for Murdoch's lot even if inadvertently)

Aren't there 72 kits on there. And there are 72 football league clubs. Maybe that generic red and white stripes one on the left is a placeholder for ours!

I thought I'd see if I could identify all the kits but three kits are repeated on the bottom row so maybe ours isn't there at all?
