Shots per 90 - First and Last

Suppose it's worth remembering that in our 2 away trips so far away to recently relegated Watford and then to a Boro managed by our ex boss and were/still considered possibly playoff contenders. (And we have a dire record there)

Tomorrow will be tough too, Luton have a good home record.

Shots per 90 doesn't necessarily mean creating loads of chances. XG helps identify whether we're doing OK and that would suggest that we're better than the plain shots. As noted above, we've played Watford and Boro in our two away games, both sides with genuine hopes of finishing in the top 6

What's also pleasing is that we are statistically the best team defensively despite those two tough away games (ignore Coventry's home figure as they've not played yet)

Sorry to keep banging on about Preston. But they have the 3rd highest shots per game at home and the 5th highest Xg overall but have only scored 1 goal! They need a whipround for some shooting boots sharpish

At home sitting first averaging a whopping 21 shots per 90

Away sitting dead last averaging under 5 shots per 90.

C'mon Hecky! Let the lads loose both home and away, we have no-one to be scared of!

(Queue the FallowfieldBlade reply saying Hecky doesnt know what he's doing)

If pg means “per goal” ( apologies if it doesn’t) surely all this suggests that we are more accurate away than at home ?
If it means “per game” it still suggests that we are a bit wild at home.

Those stats look pretty scary from a supporters point of view, until you consider our initially tentative away form, tactics and substitutions.

I don’t expect PH to go off the deep end at Luton, but I hope the players get a bit more freedom on Friday night.
If we were at home this weekend I'd be confident. We aren't, and I'm less so. I dont expect us to go all season without a win of course, but the sooner it comes the better. No disrespect to Luton, they're doing their own thing and got to the play-offs last season (but so did Barnsley year before), but considering the squad we have and the start we've had, we should be going there and telling them to fuck off.

It's per game. If it was per goal we'd have needed nearly 150 shots in 3 games for our seven goals (2-0 vs Millwall, 2-1 vs Sunderland, 3-0 vs Blackburn). We're good but we're not that good :)
