Shirt sponsor pull out? Blades fan sponsorship then

If we had to have a sponsor I would vote for a local brewery, perhaps in a deal for reasonably priced ales to sell at half time, say £2 a pint.

If this is not an option, I would be happy if we had no sponsorship on the shirts, and raised the income shortfall by other means.

I am also not against a charity being offered the chance to take the place of commercial sponsors, but wonder if any would come near us at the moment.

Help for heroes would be good, or a local children's hospice.

That's not really the point of what this thread is about, it's about if we end up without a sponsor because of circumstances, then what's the best thing to do for the rest of this season...

Unfortunately we are now in a fog of moral confusion , which Mr Evans , Blades , PFA , cannot control. The situation with Mr Evans has now created a catalyst for sponsors to provide the threat to pull the plug on sponsorship . Some of the sponsors will have the final say , as Westfield Health , Kennedy's . They say all publicity can be turned into a positive spin , and has certainly raised the Blades profile world wide , much more and quicker than having ties in Hungry , Australia , China football clubs. Unfortunately not for the right reasons.

Money and reputation does talk in a toxic world of banking , celebrity , sport . This situation is going to get a lot lot worst before it gets better and will have a long term affect on SUFC , whatever league we are in.

We could become a club , which no one wants to be associated with the SUFC brand . We are a small fish in a very big football pond and rely on local sponsorship , more than national . Time for Mr McCabe and Mr Prince to make a stance . Sponsorship is a integral part of football with Wonga , Betting etc being involved at other clubs . We are creating a situation for a total backfire for what the club stands for and what sponsors like . A family club. We do need a striker but in this spiralling situation , not Mr Evans. There is too much collateral damage which will take years to repair .

I get that fella, but it feels, to me, a bit like asking "how would we setup if we had no keeper", and not expecting question "why would we have no keeper?" :)

If the sponsors pull their deal, perhaps the Wedn**day Star will organise a "save our blades" appeal !

However, I shall not be holding my breath ......

In fairness there are a number of threads dealing with the "why would we have no keeper" question, aren't there?

The home shirt has been out of stock in most sizes for some weeks now. Am I reading too much into this?

I don't really get that.... There is a real possibility though if circumstances change that we don't have shirt sponsors. If that happens then I personally see it as an opportunity to do something different. I'm not suggesting that financially we'll benefit in the short or long term, but that we write that off for this season at least and go with something that the fans and club can do together.

In a way it's a kind of defiance against the media and sponsors etc and it's really not the end of the world

I presume we have a contract which means that we can keep the cash and leave the shirt blank. if we went to another sponsor we would be in breach and therefore have to pay the original sponsors some form of settlement.
In which case we don't need to do anything .

Fan sponsorship to keep a sponsor off the front shirt regardless of this Ched situation would be a good idea I think. Although if we do need a proper sponsor then I think it should be on the lower back of the shirt.

Valencia have their Gol TV sponsor on the lower back of the shirt and no front sponsor:

It's a more subtle way to display a sponsor and does not wreck the overall look of the shirt.

This isn't a ched thread.

I discussed this with a mate in Japan this weekend.

If these sponsors do pull out, I have no issue with it. It's their prerogative. Then an option is fan sponsorship as a gesture of support for the club, not individuals, but the club

Who'd be up for putting some cash in? Amount of donation could be discretionary and private.

An alternative would be for the club to pick a charity and put their name on the shirts
Best thing I've heard read for ages, count my pounds in if this was to ever happen.
