2 goals in a recent international
i really like Shelton and i would like him to have a fair crack of the whip so we can see what he can do
BT and Shelton?

Shelton has been in terrific form for his country as the Jamaicans began their World Cup assault with a 7-0 thrashing over the Bahamas in Kingston, with the striker netting a double.

These goals came after he won and scored a late penalty against Trinidad and Tobago that got the Reggie Boys a deserved draw the previous week.

I think Shelton has potential... but will he get the run out in the team that Sharp got so he can prove it?

Will fans have the patience like they had with Sharp?

We're in the position where a winning team should keep playing, and I can't really see much room for experimentation when/if we have a settled side.

I just cannot see Luton Shelton managing to force his way into the first team with the current crop of strikers that we have.

He has undoubted pace but his all round game has been pretty poor in his very few and brief appearances this past season.

I fear he will prove to be another costly forward from whom we see very little return on our investment. Thats the better part of 5 million on Horsfield, Akinbiyi and Shelton; all of which have failed to make an impact.

Very frustrating indeed.

Akinbiyi was worth that alone for that goal at Hillsborough though!

And don't forget Horsfield at MK Dons.... oh.... erm.... ;)

I wouldn't have argued with you at the time; seems like a long time ago but i can still remember watching as he set himself to hit it and thinking: "you must be joking".

I seem to remember thinking the same thing when Tongey went for goal from the free-kick too.

Happy days!

Four important things to bear in mind about Shelton.
1. His goals were against the Bahamas, and Trinidad and Tobago. Not, it must be noted, Holland, Portugal, Brazil, or any other decent sides.
2. He can run like Speedy Gonzales, but he passes like a three inch tall Mexican mouse too.
3. Not every striker Warnock got was good. Horsefield, anyone?
4. The Bahamas, for fuck's sake. That's like beating Lanzarote Juniors, or a EuroDisney Xl. In costumes.

Always thought he had potential, but he would have to prove it quicker than Sharp did, in all fairness, how many of you was slating him, complaining about him, wanting him off the pitch for another more deserving striker? I know I was.

Akinbiyi also scored an as important goal at Derby ( apart from being against pigs) on his debut if I remember rightly. He may not have scored many but two out of four he did score were VERY important.

But at the same time, if we have no need to sell players, there's no reason we can't keep them until at least January.

Thats very true, and in Sheltons case i agree but some of the other 'dross' will never come reight get shut of them a.s.a.p.

Shelton does have potential but we weren't half mugged when we paid £2M for him - he should have been about £300K tops. I can't see him getting much of a chance in the first team next season but I can't see us getting anything much for him if we try and sell him. Might as well hang on and see if he does start to deliver the ball at the end of his mazy runs (or at least take the ball with him on more of the runs).

5 goals in 2 games, not bad, i think he does deserve a decent chance along with Beattie, have them two ever played together from start?

I'd fancy myself to bag 5 against the Bahamas to be fair.

I said after Villa away in the Premiership season he's not good enough and I've seen nothing to show me otherwise.

SV is spot on with his 4 point post. We can do better, I'd take Webber over him every day of the week.

I knew it would be YOU to pick up on that

Mousey can't say anything, I set him up with a peach of a pass :D

Hahaha, if that's the case Daz. You were set up with enough peaches to open up a bloody fruit shop ;)

Ahem... back on the topic of Shelton please gentlemen :)
