Many a true word...

And on Page 266(B) - 'Managers' - you'll notice there's plenty of space after Chris Wilder for another 2 or 3 managers. Should take us up to the end of next season. :D

Magic Mate. Showing us in League 1 in 2017/18 at the top of the chart! Hope it’s not a sign of the future!

Excellent work grafikhaus , many thanks.

Hopefully one day there will be a website of season by season Blades matches in history including goalscorers (photos and match reports too would be great)

Here are the links for other clubs's records and statistics

Newcastle http://toon1892.co.uk/

Liverpool lfchistory.net is excellent but it appears to be off line at present

Manchester United http://www.mufcinfo.com/manupag/results/results_archive.html

Chelsea http://www.bounder.friardale.co.uk/

Leeds http://www.mightyleeds.co.uk/season.htm

Manchester City http://www.citytilidie.com/latest/history-season-by-season/ and https://bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/History/Matches/Seasons.aspx

You should make that site Silent :)

Would love to help if someone who would set up the site asking for some contributions. I have no knowledge in setting up websites. It has to be someone with a lot of time in his/her hands. I dont think the club would allow the site to copy the stats from "The complete record" book

The stats are not copyright. They can be obtained from a number of sources.

It's an interesting point, Silent Blade . As Revolution says, there shouldn't be copyright issues and there are errors in 'The Complete Record' book (not my updates, of course :)). But it's the future. Two or three years ago, you could buy United programmes online from 'O Publishing' (now 'Ignition Sports Media'). Back then, a printed programme would be £3 (+ p&p). But you could have a pdf download for £3 and no 'delivery charge'. I ordered a pdf version expecting - foolishly - for it to include links, embedded videos etc. but it was just the same as the printed version converted to a pdf and no interactivity.

I think that clubs are missing a trick here with the traditional matchday programme in decline and under threat. Apart from games we play at Wembley (where buying a programme is a must), I haven't bought a printed programme for years as it's just full of 'filler' etc. If online versions were available, you'd not have the 'immediacy' of team changes, latest news, 'Has Wilder gone yet?' etc. but you don't get that with the print version.

The reason the 'Complete Record' book hasn't been updated is probably cost and - as with most things print - it's quickly out of date. I'll continue to provide updates at the end of seasons (until told otherwise...) as it's not for commercial gain, simply to provide like-minded nerds like me a way to look back on recent years. If you've got the book, last season (and the six in Division One) haven't happened.

I've already started building something (quite some time ago).

Would welcome people who wished to contribute/help.

I'd be happy to help with some of the leg work on that as well.

Your Complete Record updates are great, though I've not got round to working out a neat way to stick them into the book yet

Printing pdfs two-sided is nororiously difficult re. 'centering'. I prefer to just 'drop' the pdf file onto my PC to peruse/print at leisure.

'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now'? :(

Quinn. I know some on here didn't rate him, but he's not done too bad has he?

One of the biggest losses of recent years for me. The balance that him and Williamson gave the midfield was incredible.

I used to get frustrated with Quinn as he was constantly going from the sublime to the ridiculous but he was a proper little footballer when his head was on, I think for many it was a case of "you don't know what you've got til it's gone".

So, attention donut1889, Cyprus Blade, MiserableBlader, Highfield Blade, hendo, Bladey, Woodwardfan, metalblade, Silent Blade, cooperblade, brownie, esablade & Foxy (you've all showed interest over the years ago) and of course everybody else:

OK, this is the latest version of key updates/additions to the original book. What’s been improved? I’ve added players substituted/on as sub. etc. as well as a link from each page to the relevant Wikipedia page (click on the date in the top-left of most pages).

upload_2019-5-6_4-54-8.png

Whether you’ve got the book or not, I think this is a useful reminder of the last few seasons where Denis Clarebrough’s book left off. Ideal for viewing online via the free Adobe Acrobat Reader program or printed out (see below).

It’s bang up-to-date as of today (’ll update ‘The Managers’ section if CW gets his well-deserved Manager of the Year award).

There are two files attached:

United-1.pdf

This is a ‘two-page spread’ where facing pages are displayed (i.e. 2 pages per screen - like the book) and is best for online viewing.
United-1_onepage.pdf

Here, only one (actual size) page per screen is displayed at actual size and is more suitable for printing.

The finished (cropped) page size to match the original book is 234 mm tall and 153mm wide.

Depending on your printer, you may have to alter settings in the ‘Print Preview ‘box – orientation, print odd/even pages etc.

Under ‘Page Sizing & Handling’ (FILE…Print) in the Print dialogue box, try adjusting ‘Custom Scale’ (I’ve used 97% here) and click the ‘Shrink oversized pages’ radio button.

Printing ‘crop marks’ and with ‘Shrink oversize pages’ and - in the ‘Advanced’ options – Marks and Bleeds…Trim Marks and ensuring you’re still in portrait orientation usually does it.

  1. Click File…Print.
  2. Under Settings, click the arrow next to paper size and choose a paper size larger than your final product.
  3. Under Printer, click the arrow next to the printer, and click Advanced Output Settings.
  4. On the Marks and Bleeds tab, under Printer's marks, select the Crop marks box, and click OK.

Practice with just one page set to print – not all 33!

In addition, these interactive .pdf files contain internal and external hyperlinks (blue and underlined) which, of course, will only work when viewed online.

The only sure way (that I know of) of printing a faithful replication – easy to print full-sized and centred - of this file is by opening the original files in their authoring program – Adobe InDesign (CC 2019 and earlier) and using the FILE…Print dialog within this program.

Let me know if you’ve got this prog. And I’ll upload the files.

Think it is fantastic. You don't have Enda Stevens playing against West Brom mind. He had a blinder. Sorry. Not given it a full check.

Edit on above. You have Basham playing that game. It was the 3rd of his 3 match ban.

Fleck has only missed 11 games in 3 seasons, man's a machine!

Fantastic stuff. I used to spend hours in the Central Library going through the newspapers on microfiche getting results and teams from the beginning up to the 70's so know what a job this is.
