That Barnsley cup marathon still looms large. 3 matches and was it 2 postponements as well? It was a soap opera in itself.
We were unlucky v Man Utd despite Bassett's comments afterward in the dressing room. The ball looked well out before they won the corner from which they ultimately won the match.
Great memories cheers Walth!
I know, pros and cons really, they were a bit daft when they got that extreme but the theatre was great. I remember the pigs had a good multi match tussle with Everton (I think), but then inexplicably in the final match collapsed and conceded 5 or possibly 6 at Hillsborough. I remember my sister telling me the score and pissing myself laughing. You don't get FA Cup 'marathons' anymore. I remember Everton and Oldham having about four replays of one tie one year.

That was funny: 1-1, 1-1, 1-1, 0-5.
When we won the Cup in 1899, the first round, second round, and semi final all went to replays. Only the third round tie and final didn't. The semi final against Liverpool was replayed twice. The results were 2-2, 4-4, 1-0.

Looked just in to me but it's hard to tell from that angle. Criminal defending for the corner though. That Barnsley cup marathon still looms large. 3 matches and was it 2 postponements as well? It was a soap opera in itself.

Enjoyed that video..until the 'same old Man Yoo always cheating' moment!
Back to the times when you could see that 99% of the time players actually cared as well.

nothing new thereIt was 0-5 at half time and so many Wendy fans decided to go home during half time!
As a dyed in the wool FA Cup traditionalist I don't see any cons at all. They were the ties that captured the imagination and made the tournament what it was (i.e. the best in the world bar none).
The fact they've now fucked about to let the likes of Wenger dictate the competition rules is the FA's greatest shame for me.
The FA Cup had been in decline long before Man U got to opt out. The reality is the prize money for winning the league or the Champions Cup far exceeds the prize money for the FA Cup so the clubs with a realistic chance of winning one of those (or even getting to the late rounds of the European Cup) prioritised those two competitions. Once that started, the FA Cup lost some of its status and glamour.Fully agree..and the FFA (Fergie Football Associaton) debacle allowing Man Yoo to withdraw from it to play some stupid poxy two bit bobbins tournament over in Outer Mongolia!
trying to remember.. for nostalgia sake what was the last FA Cup match that went to an extra replay? and a Blades one?

The Premier League and the Champions League killed the FA Cup.
I still enjoy it. The low ticket prices and having games on free to view TV makes it more of a 'people's cup', particularly in the earlier rounds.
I absolutely agree. The distribution of cash to the lower league clubs is a huge plus point.indeed, from that perspective it still retains its magic...just hope they don't get rid of replays for the smaller clubs to have that extra important bite of the cherry!
I'm looking forwards to the 1st round this weekend..although will be stuck at work on Sunday when the potential shocks will happen, Kidderminster at Blackpool!
Att was 34344The man u match, I think was the biggest attendance at BDTBL in the last 30 years. anyone know for certain?
I'm sure for one of those postponements it was really late, I seem to remember being on the coach ready to go when we got the call.
Cheers Walthy BTW, great memories, seems like yesterday though.
Yes, I think we got parked up off a side street near Oakwell after a treacherous journey as the snow started to get heavier and Radio Sheffield reported it was off.
I went to the final game and remember standing on the terrace on the side - we seemed to have a lot of the ground - opposite the big old terrace. Great atmosphere that night and even though not the best game for us getting to a QF when I was only 11 was very exciting!
I was at the Man U game and was disappointed that in the BBC highlights on TV, all we had was a couple of minutes worth of space-filler at the arse-end of the programme, with commentary by Gerald Sinstadt who sounded like he wasn't even at the game.
Wasn't David Elleray the ref too (random thought that just occurred to me)?
Yes, it was the ref for the first replay. Brian Hill reffed the second replayI think he reffed the first replay. In the United documentary Bassett says to him after the game in the tunnel "can I come and see you in your room in a few minutes?" and Elleray says "no". He hated us.
I remember watching the highlights of the first replay on TV. From memory, a lot of games were postponed that night so they hardly had anything to show so United and Barnsley got 40 minutes on the Beeb - and the country was treated to a 0-0 draw with no highlights whatsoever.
