Sharp to be new captain?

A very good point. Did we do that when Kelly was club captain, and had someone else (Sandford?) as team captain? I don't argue he's ideally suited to the club captain role of that's what we're thinking.
I remember we had Martin Kuhl as our team captain and Paul Stancliffe as our club captain

Let's hope that Billy as captain is an indication of what the retained list will look like.

Does this mean McEveley is on his bike?!

Glad that Chris qualified his own reasons for Sharp being captain as I was concerned that this decision was influenced from the non footballing side, probably McCabe himself.

Also that he knows Sharp well (not sure how) which has enabled him to make this immediate decision on next years captaincy.

A clever, early decision from Wilder because surely McCabe can't sell him now, surely not! :D

I don't actually agree with Sharp as captain, when things are not going his way, he is a sulky mardy bastard and not sure he is leadership material. Few times last season I remember him getting pissed when people didn't pass to him etc.

For balance, I love him as a player, just not sure if hes captain material but then again, what do I know. I am a mere minion fan.

Well then doesn't it tell you something . The other 10 players on the field are not good enough to be a leader by example and captain .

I agree mate ....... IMHO its rare that a striker makes a good Captain ...... hope he's made Sharp Club captain but chooses a team captain from one of the uncompromising CH's or CM's that he brings in ......

Don't be so sure mate ........ remember " when a Club from a higher division comes in for one of your players you have no choice but to sell " ........ unless of course your a big Club like Walsall or Gillingham

First offer over £25k, a bag of cadburys buttons and a promise of a friendly match and we're looking for another captain ........

Its the Blades way !!

Not the right one for captain as he does not take resonsibility for his own gaffs, mardy git ! He is too ready to blame the grass he is playing on.

But he wont be keen to folow Adkins now, will he ? to wherever he (Adkins) may land.
Hope this was Wilders own decision, yet it leaves me bewildered, how does Wilder know him well enough to say you are my man on the pitch ?

It may be short lived.

Not all club captain's are team captains. quoted from Lydon

Was very disappointed with our 'captain' on Tuesday. I didn't see much rousing of the troops or encouragement and there was one particular incident in the 2nd half when Chapman won the ball, cut inside past 2 players, could have shot but tried to play Billy in and just overhit it out for a goal kick. I watched Billy and there was no encouragement, no 'unlucky, good effort' in fact he refused to make eye contact with him at all, just had the 'can't believe it' look of disgust on his face.

There's enough about his general play elsewhere but as a captain, I thought he was sadly lacking on Tuesday.

Not disagreeing at all. Pretty much as I saw it on Tuesday.

But what is painfully obvious is that the lad cuts a frustrated figure. I have offered my reasons as to why this might be.

I think Billy was fucked off with everything around him on Tuesday, just as we were. That said, I don't think he's captain material anyway. I've always been a believer that it should go to a natural leader, unfortunately we have fuck all in that category in the midfield and back four. Bring Jagielka back for a swansong?

Noticed that too. I think Chapman will be a good player. He's been thrown on in difficult situations so far.

Jagielka wasn't a natural leader, just a good player in the side that everyone liked.

Morgs was a natural leader

Strikers should never be captain. All they think about is scoring. Midfielders think about scoring AND defending, and can encourage anyone on the pitch as they are out all over. Billy stays up front when defending. Captains should be at the back, organising everything. Strikers organise nothing. They just run and lose the ball. Especially Billy.

How about this for a wild idea?

Drop Sharp. Play McNulty up front with Clarke. Drop Done. Play Coutts in central midfield with Fleck, Duffy and Chapman.

Drop one of: Brayford, Hussey, O'Connell or Wilson to make room for Jake Wright at centre Half and make Wright Captain.

Drop Long and give somebody/anybody else a go.

O'Connell is our best CB. He had a shocker on Tuesday but he is our best
