I just really enjoy playing with my friends. It is a great sport for socialising. I prefer snooker to pool because there is a lot of thinking involved. Once you play a lot you can see the shots and you can get better. It is something which you can work at and there is always room for improvement.”

Does Nigel Adkins live with him

Had a game at a pub in Eccles before the match on Sunday. Sorry but them tables are far too big. Potted a few reds but my maximum break was 1.

And if the white ball is in the middle of the table then don’t even get me started on using those rest things or whatever they are called

Try on a 3/4 table mate.

Loads of pubs in Sheff used to have snooker tables, you were supposed to put 50p in the light metre which gave you 30 mins light, but you could easily play without. Also used to go to a snooker club on Heeley bottom, not sure if it's still there.

Used to go in there with my mate who was a professional.

Langtons definitely had a snooker hall on division street above the shops near Chubbys. Used to go there most nights with my mates. Seedy place. It burned down late 1980s I think.

Yeah I used to go there, it was above the old Nameless Pizza place, trying to remember the old guy's name who used to run, George rings a bell?

George and Elsie. Had my cue nicked from behind the counter where everyone used to leave them. Some characters in that place.

I’m with Hackblade on this one. They didn’t go for the money shot and ask him what his highest break is. Apparently Billy Sharp has got a snooker room in his house as well. Paul Coutts is also a big snooker enthusiast as well, as I’m sure I’ve read somewhere they’ve got either a snooker or pool table and Couttsy was unbeatable.

When I was a teenager I spent plenty of time in smokey snooker clubs, Mainly the 147 at Ecco or Cue Ball in Chap. Then when I went to work at Butlins they let the staff use the snooker table for free and I’d go and play and practice a lot. I even took my old trusty two piece Riley cue. At one point I got that good I could regularly rattle in 20+ breaks, play for position and learned how to play a heart decent safety game. Then I went for a game, played beautifully and racked up a 42 break, i potted a red in to the centre pocket and ran on beautifully for a black, and with the balls all favourably placed and already on a personal best it had become a question of how high could the break become, and the half century was tantalising close. So I walked confidently round the table, chalked my cue carefully and got in to position taking a couple of dummy shots before i pulled my arm back, executed the shot and watched the black wobble around the jaws of the pocket, come back out and never got close again. If you got me on a snooker table mentally I would know how to clear up but wouldn’t be able to execute any of the shots properly any more. It’s up there with Golf for frustration

Snooker is a far, far better game than Pool. It’s more skilful, takes a lot more thought and in most pubs the pool tables aren’t looked after, the balls don’t roll true, the cloth is usually fucked and the cues are have usually been smashed about. Going from playing on a looked after snooker table in a proper club to playing on pool table is like going from playing football on a beautiful desso pitch to a dog shit ridden quagmire on a Concord Park.

Brain fart. It was Faulkners on division street. Langtons heeley bottom.

I used to play a lot of snooker and love the game. I started playing in the Railway club on Farm road on lunch breaks from work and went to Heeley snooker hall with a mate once a week before getting married. Got back into it on a 3/4 table in Woodhouse WE club and started playing at Moorfoot snooker club I was runner up in their open once. Best break is 52 on a full size table. The thing is with snooker the better you get the harder it is because you no longer take on the easy shots as you are thinking 3-4 shots on so take harder shots on to get position for building a breaks. A lot of thought has to go into the game too, many a time at the table I have been unaware of what is going on in the room. Some places I have played the regulars didn't like losing, in one Irish pub in Blackburn the bastards would think nothing of smashing a Guiness bottle behind you as you were about to sink the final black.

That burnt down a long time ago, mate.
