Spoke to both on twitter breifly and both seem to think that we're going up automatic.

Neither wanted comment on wendy at the rust bucket, which somewhat pleased me.

Hope both are true and would love to see Deano at the lane cheering us on.....

Maybe they have some sort of clairvoyant ability.......get down William Hill and lump on it boys.

Is this Billy Sharp the big blade who celebrates massively when he scores against us?

Always makes me smile when he scores, yep, even against us, currently with a manager who knows his worth.

Be nice to see how he gets on in the PL next Season.

Fat Lad ...... :)

Having been shown the door twice, you can understand why surely Rob?

Not really, no.
He wasn't particulary hurried through the door the second time, he was given arguably too much time on the pitch with us.
The first time round, I think he wanted to be guaranteed first team football (which we weren't prepared to offer) and we allowed him to leave to enhance himself properly.

The team and him never suited one another, and I say good luck to the lad on his future prospects.

With him supposedly claiming to be a big blade, you'd think he would show the fans some respect (the fans gave him a lot of support that was never afforded to other flops).

In some aspects, I have a massive amount of respect for him, with what happened to him with his son and the way he handled, and also the way he has had a hit in his career and came back just as strong.

In other ways, he lets himself down, not just for celebrating any goal scored against us.... but he can basically be a right knobhead away from the pitch.

That's only opinions!! Doesn't mean anything.

With regards to Sharp: His digs were aimed at Blackwell, not the blades, not us fans.

Blackwell wanted him out and they had a major training ground bust up too.

Didn't Billy get himself booked for his celebrations against Donny?

For going to the crowd and giving a high 5 to a little kid in the crowd.
Hardly cause for a booking, though, is it?

I actually think that it's a bit odd when players don't celebrate when they score. Even against their old clubs.
It's all so politically correct to try to supress the joy at scoring.

Blackwell became manager in Feb 08 and shipped Sharp out on loan in Aug 09. In that period Sharp managed 8 league goals and none after Sept 08. I don't think that is consistent with "wanting him out".

Maybe Sharp just celebrates goals for the team that pays his wages, regardless of who they're against.

I don't get it at all. No real fan would celebrate against their own club. I have no issue with it, but you can't claim the big Blade card if you do. Kyle Walker showed how its done. Sharp is just another ex player with 100% commitment to himself.

He was shown the door with us because he coudn't hit a bulls ass with a banjo. It just didn't work out for him, but I really can't think that Sharp thinks he wasn't given a fair crack of the whip with us. If he does, he needs his bollocks feeling.

Some of the bile spouted on forums like this as regards Sharp is frankly pitiful.

Here are the facts.

It didn't work out for Sharp at BDTBL. No doubt.
Many will suggest reasons as to why this was the case.
In the meantime, his goal scoring record at championship level will stand up consistently against absolutely anyone over the last 2.5 years.

The plain and simple truth is that the club, and Blackwell specifically, fucked up royally with this player.

What a potent force a Billy Sharp / Ched Evans partnership could (and should) have been for the Blades.

Alas we move on.

I agree he's a top striker and have defended that several times. He was poor for us though, and had plenty of opportunity. He would surely be man enough to shoulder a slice of the blame for that.

Care to be specific about what the bile is? I haven't read any.

To be honest, I think he's got off fairly lightly considering some of his misdemeanors in recent years.

He's without doubt a talented lad, but Sheffield United first eleven was always a difficult one for him. It wasn't Blackwell's fault he spent most of his time on the pitch stood in an offside position :)

Hear hear.

I thought billy sharp looked atrocious for us and often resembled a man running through treacle

I think that was the problem - too much running, not enough lurking, or to use a daft punditism, 'ghosting'.

Yep, that's how I remember it. He did Beatties running for him, to his own cost.

I'm with you on this Dronnie. Sharp received a lot of pointless flack from certain supporters for no reason and letting him go was a major mistake. Blackwell screwed up big time with this player. I get the feeling Danny Wilson and his management team would have handled him much better. Rest assured Sharp will be scoring in the Premier league next year.

What flack though? Were you in the USA during his spell with us? He was never booed, got lots of cash and hardly scored any goals. He fell out with Backwell, but that was it. In all fairness, he had far more apologists (including me) than detractors. But for whatever reason, there is no doubt that Billy Sharp did better out of Sheffield United than Sheffield United did out of Bily Sharp.

That he felt the need to celebrate so widly says everything about where his loyalties lied. As I said, no problem at all. But the big Blade tag was well and truly laid to rest.

Didn't he also hold talks with the pigs and his old boss buffalo head

Maybe we should check the stats on Ahr Billy Alco I'm sure he also created a lot more than he was given credit for.
I accept thought that at the end of the day it's all about goals scored for a "striker". Evans has gone from zero to hero pretty quickly.

I remember a lot of moaning and groaning, and plenty of talk about Billy Big-Bollocks on a number of forums.
Fact is the guy has a lot of talent but he couldn't handle pressure of the demands for a hattrick every game.
Maybe it was Blackwell's style of play. Even Keith Edwards might have struggled to score in that type of team.

I agree with Dronnie. Billy poaching on the shoulder of Evans would have been helluva striker force.
