Just seen a stat, we’ve only scored from 1 corner all season and that was Oné’s header against Bristol City away which was played short and crossed into the box.

We’ve also only had 4 shots on target from corners this season.

2 set piece goals which has gone down as the Campbell goal against the pigs which I’m not sure I would class as a set piece goal and same for the Moore goal against Stoke when Gilchrist shot and it came off Moore’s foot and deflected in.

1 free kick, Hamer against Derby.

Desperate for a good set piece coach.

It's baffling given we've arguably got much better set-piece takers this season. You would have thought that setting up set-pieces to give Hamer a shot would be high on the list.

We have nobody that can attack a corner though. Even with Souttar, I don't remember him getting his head on many that resulted in a keeper save or anything.

I remember plenty where our keeper has made a save from one though.

Anel and Jack have had some success in the air before but we aren't getting owt for free kicks, corners and long throws these days.

Another annoying habit at free kicks is a little side pass to a team mate for another slow burn attack - gerrit forwards - after we learned what to do with it of course.

Souttar seemed to win plenty, but headed them back across goal rather than trying to test the goalkeeper.

It's cropped up on a few threads, first time Alan Knill was hailed as a set piece genius? Why has that changed?

…or players who can execute set pieces better than at present.

Thing is with scoring from corners in regards to set piece goals, the stats tend to get a bit distorted owing to the amount of different set piece goals (corners, free kicks, long throws?) technically wouldn't penalties fall under the set piece goals as they aren't scored from open play?

Scoring from corners seems to be happening less and less these days, other than Arsenal's Saka-Gabriel combination that's resulted in a few goals from corners this season, I can't think of many other teams who score corners as consistently as Arsenal?

If you watch our corners the majority all go to the edge of the six yard box or just inside the six yard box. It's a crowd of bodies and the best we can hope for is a scrappy rebound.

I never get why we don't aim around the penalty spot and spread the players out more, including having a couple run in from the edge of the 18 yard box. We have one routine and one routine only.

Same with our free kicks. Everyone stand in a straight line and all run together like you're playing British Bulldog/Red Rover in the playground.

Also, the Robbo long throw has become a bit of an embarrassment. Considering we use it quite a lot, It’s as though we don’t practice it in training…bizarre.

It's dreadful isn't it. He seems to just randomly throw it as hard and as high as he can at no one in particular. If the keeper doesn't just catch it it usually just ends up in us challenging for a header we're never gonna score from.

I reckon you don't see many goals from corners these days due to the American Football style blocking and grappling that goes on. Very risky, but virtually everyone gets away with it.

What do they coach them during the week, surely they work on set pieces?

We had one on the premier league but since then we haven’t replaced. Hopefully it’s something we can address now we seem to have good financial backing.

I agree, and would love to see the stats compared to the late 80s. Under Bassett, every time wo got a corner, we looked dangerous.

Also, whatever happened to the near post flick on? Stan was great for us. Arsenal had Bould I think. Simple but effective.

I think the idea is that it’s supposed to be more accurate than a corner…But he just throws the damned thing into the mix…just like a corner.

My anticipation levels of a goal (when we win a corner,) are about the same as when we are awarded a goal kick.

I think the new owners use of Data and Ai will see us employing set piece coach or similar as christ knows what Knills role is now but he must have had a brain transplant since the 1st spell

It is the “trendy thing” to have set piece coaches. Although in training I can definitely understand it, it’s how far you want it some clubs in particular Arsenal seem to have a full time role in Nicolas Jover who has been at Brentford and Man City before doing the same thing but isn’t a big footballing name he was a video analyst prior to that. You would like to think we have the resources for the analysts coaches to be concentrating on set pieces. Fleck’s free kick came off the training ground. Under the Warnock era we were always a threat at corners but that might have been the 4-4-2 hoof ball style which even if the stats aren’t there we got labelled with the “tough northerners”

The last season I got excited about corners was our promotion season under Warnock, mainly because Unsworth could take brilliant corners.

This needs some work. A free kick is a free kick so why in the first half when we had a free kick in their half did we take the ball back to Cooper in goal.

Move it forwards FFS!

To be fair, we should have scored from one tonight… Burrows that BBD saw saved.

That's because Wilder has them all in defensive positions just in case their goalie catches the corner
