I've not completely given up hope of avoiding relegation,

Wut...?

Why would you even be starting to give up hope??

I'm not expecting promotion by any stretch of the imagination, but to be talking relegation after just 1 game.. surely you're just trolling for reactions...

Personally I don't think we have the right players for the system he wants to play.
If he isn't backed significantly then he will probably have to rethink the formation.
Redandwhitewizard, I don't think it's having the right players it's the formation, I think 3-5-2 would suit better when Soumare is ready been the anchoring CM with either hamer, coh or peck either side of him seriki/brookes on one flank with burrows/ barry on the oposite side with cannon & Campbell up top. Defensively we need to bring in at least 2 CBs & RB

If we go to 3-5-2 that would mean no space for any of the wingers we've brought in (plus Brooks)

We all forgot was it Millwall away ( Peroni on bus ) and we all know how that turned out in end . So many fortune tellers on here win lotto and buy us out then ffs

Mmmm … next 3 league games before end of Window & International break will be interesting if we don’t sort out the defensive issues. Scary right now

Swansea a
Millwall h
Boro a

I’ve not seen us walked through like that for a long time. Even those big hammerings in the premier league the season before last didn’t all come from sides running us like Bristol City did. It felt like we were in danger every time we lost the ball
They were also very fluid in the 1.1 draw at The Lane last season

I'm not worried whether I understand his point.

When these oracles speak I just sit there and wonder whether this "in transition" business is something to do with Nicola Sturgeon.

I am worried whether the players understand his point. Not all of them are intellectuals.

Cloughie used to say it was a simple game, but what the fuck did he know, building title winning sides at two unfashionalble provincial clubs.

I'm sure the footballaertti and stats hipsters know far more about the game than a bloke who could have been Englands's best ever striker, were it not for injury, and then went on to win mounds of silverware, including European Cups.

Football is a totally different sport to what it was 50 years ago (for better or for worse). None of the top managers in today's game would say the same nowadays.

I pray we sell RND because if this manager thinks he is an option at CB we’re doomed. He was an average footballer having a good spell at LWB but suddenly after having 2 serious lengthy injuries the manager now believes he can play CB. Give him a bloody L2 loan where he can some fitness back under less pressure and maybe find some form, it’s cruel to put him through this with what he’s been through.

I expected somebody to say that and I don't necessarily disagree.

What I would say, is that the proponderence of analytics, stats and technical commentary, is self serving. There are vested interests in telling everyone how complex the game is today.

Soem things have changed, diet, conditioning and a much better technical understanding of the body, ensure that footballers are athletes and many degrees fitter now (you couldn't imagine John Robertson and his ilk, having a pre match fag}. Having said that, the rules aren't much changed and tectical 'progressions', seem to get cancelled out fairy quickly.

The thrust of my point, is that yes the game has changed, but maybe not so much as some would like us to believe. I see the 'Emperor's new clothes', in much of the stuff we are told, but then again, I'm a cynical old bastard.

Thought I'd mentioned seriki/brooks & burrows/barry as out on the flanks m8, they'd be able to track back if need be while keeping a 3 man MF.....was just a thought.
