We have enough middys and strikers, wings are covered we just need at least 1 CH and 1 goalie and a better holder if we can get one.

I can only think of about 4 players who I'd retain - the rest of the shit we've accumulated are wage thieves and can go for me.

As regards buying - don't make me laugh, our 'recruitment' team whoever they are couldn't organise a prayer in a mosque.

Wouldn't argue with most of those mate, with a few exceptions.

Sammon - go, as I think we need a more potent target man. He works hard and seems committed but not sure he is good enough.

Scoogs - stay, as he offers something different from midfield. He gets forward and offers a goal threat. Despite his size he can ride a challenge and I actually think opposing players struggle to figure him out.

Hammond - stay for now. Controversial in many people's eyes but I struggle to accept that he won't improve and personally I think he is doing albeit slowly.

loans?? to who. we are so low down these days we'd be loaning them to our rivals?

Scougs offers a goal threat? He's scored 1 goal in 13 months.

Centre back is still the biggest priority for me and then a top "LEAGUE 1" central midfielder

Oh dear Leeds, do you actually support the Blades? Do you think the players you so colourfully describe rocked up at the lane and demanded to be signed on whatever wage they chose to 'steal'?

It's very much like a toddler who's bored with their current set of toys, throws them out of the cot and demands a new 'better' set, until of course they become bored with them also.

Yes there will be changes and I'm sure Adkins is quite aware of who and when within the constraints of budgets contracts etc.

Of course you have your opinion, but 'accumulated shit, wage thieves', really?

True, his stats aren't great but he has been off colour following his injury.

Let me re-phrase my point, he gets forward and supports the strikers. No other CM does that.

Most people agree to a certain extent on who should stay and go, with a few exceptions.

The real question is, who should we attempt to bring in, and when? Who should we be looking to recruit in January and who should we wait until Summer for?

My knowledge of individual players at other clubs is very poor, particularly in our division and below. I know other posters are much more tuned in than me when it comes to this, so who should we be looking at to help us finish strongly?

Answers on a postcard, please.

Im going to be really controversial but Baxter would go for me ,despite him playing well lately. He is one player we could probably get a fee for ,and I think his contract runs out at the end of the season. But mainly we have to adapt our team to fit him ,as there is only one place he can play and that is as a ball player in a 3 man midfield like he is now ,but even now he is pushed out to the right and in my opinion a bit of a waste of a team player. He cant play in a 4-4-2 which Adkins seems to prefer ,and by going 4-3-3 we lose any width whatsoever. Nothing personal against him ,it really isn't but I think for the better of both Baxter and Utd it would be better ,even though he is probably our best player at the moment we play better as a team without him.
As for the list above it is Sunday league mentality to just pick who is playing well and who isn't ,form is temporary and you have to look at the bigger picture.
What Adkins will do is just guesswork to be honest because some of his selections are bonkers ,he has our best player sitting on the bench or pushed out on the left wing ,our promising youngster like a startled rabbit up front when he should be wide ,for both him and Sharp ,I am bewildered by him and his selections at the moment.

The problem with getting rid of Baxter can be demonstrated by the following list of league goals scored by other central midfielders since August 2013:

Basham 1
Scougall 1

Don't give up on Baxter - who has his uses and contributes - until you have something better. There is certainly no midfielder on the books at the moment who is contributing more.

Nothing has changed from the day he took over, goalkeeper, two centre backs and a centre midfielder (mobile/leader) the only addition a replacement for Murphy. Most fans identified these areas under NC and they are still the positions for improvement in January with half a season gone.

It's very much like a toddler who's bored with their current set of toys, throws them out of the cot and demands a new 'better' set, until of course they become bored with them also.

Id say its more a case of the toddler having the toys which he enjoyed playing with taken away from him and replaced with a bunch of crap, in which case hed be within his rights to throw a paddy.

For me your missing 3 that need to go

McCabe
Phipps
Adkins

That's not very controversial coming from you Sits!

I completely understand what you mean although I don't agree we play better without him. I still say he's the only player in the squad who can put his foot on the ball, knock a good ball and switch play - he's now weighing in with goals and is still one of our better players at set pieces. Obviously if we could replace him with someone with all those attributes but can also tackle and has pace, then fair enough. I'd even argue that in the last few games, his work rate has been much better (as I think you've noticed yourself).

For me, I think we could play Baxter in a 4-4-2, if only we could find a really hard working combative midfielder with stamina, so that rules out Coutts and, at the moment, Hammond too.

Presuming Adkins favours playing a traditional 4-4-2, we desperately need :-

1. A good keeper to replace Howard and keep George to develop.
2. Two centre backs that can defend properly, nothing flash, win headers, strong in the tackle, don't get turned inside out very often and don't give forwards acres of space.
3. Hard working, combative centre mid - as above
4. Left sided winger/midfielder - apart from Woolford, we don't have one, and as Jamal and Che appear to be ahead of Woolford at the moment, it doesn't say much for Woolford.
5. Less of an issue would be a better left back and right winger/midfielder (I like Jam but he ain't a young man).

Up front, I agree with Sits, neither Adams or Sharp have done much in the last few games and we have one of our best players in Done sat on the bench. Why he's not even coming on, I fail to understand. Perhaps Billy has it written in his contract that he has to start every league game.

Fair reply TD. I would have given you a like if there was a 'like but don't agree' button. Any road up, opinons eh! :)

Exactly the approach that got us where we are - sell anybody with any talent.

I was starting to worry that the quality of Blades chat was going downhill on here but thankfully we have another "who should we sell, who should we buy" thread. It's just what we needed on here.

Perhaps we should merge them all into one super-fantastic-revolving-transfer-door-megathread!!!! Either that or let's all play football manager and pretend it's real life.

10 out, 4 in!
