A suggestion.

Each April when the club pressure us into renewing season tickets and thousands of us stupidly oblige we should make an agreement. We vote and agree one player who if sold within 12 months means free season tickets all round.

Alternatively the board could offer us a decade of free season tickets as way of apology for too many years of mismanagement and selling our best players.

As others have said on other threads, it's not about Jamie Murphy, it's the selling of our best player consistently every year. In April the club makes all the right noises about the next season, then in August throws away our chances by selling off our best asset and not replacing them.

And I don't buy my season ticket to watch the star player, because I know they are all tarts and follow the money (and I don't blame them for it). And nothing will get us over the fact that as a third tier club we will be a selling club for our best players, so the manager and board have to work at developing the club with this constraint.

Yeah but Murphy and Maguire both wanted out.. Been in this league for so long it's evidently hard to stop players wanting too play at a higher level.

You're right that if we are condemned to being a selling club at this level the management and board need to find a way for us to progress, but it seems they haven't a clue how.

I was musing earlier this week that the likes of Doyle and Collins were players who could be part of a promotion side when surrounded by those who would really star in a promotion campaign, like Maguire, Lowton, Williamson, Quinn and Evans in our first year at this level. The promotion stars, those who could take the club up, have been in decline and the average players who would not make the step up have been increasing. I think we now have one truly capable player in Brayford, and he's injured.

I'm naturally optimistic every season but the club have succeeded in beating it out of me before I've even got to the lane this time.

I think every club, every owner, every manager and every fan would like to sell their worst players instead. Selling the best ones happens absolutely everywhere, because the forces that make it happen are insatiable.

Anger is targeted in the wrong places. It's investing money badly that's the big problem, not selling players. Trying to stop that happening is up they with stopping world hunger.
