With more and more games every week being called off for Covid outbreaks and with the new super transmissable variant is it a matter of time before football is again suspended? Being only a 3rd through the season would the season be scrapped?

It could be I’d imagine the government would have to impose a lockdown first before any pro sports were called off though. So right now no but possibly in the new year.

If the season is null and void then SUFC will lose more money paying back rebates to tv companies and we will have to pay PL wages for 2020/21 and 2021/22

Hopefully.

It won't be cancelled, they didn't cancel the season we did ok, they certainly won't cancel the season we're shyte

We'll stay up though
Yes, but if we go down in 2022 we will get full tv money only from 2021/22 season and pay full wages for 2 seasons. I am certain that PL will stop paying paying parachute money to the relegated teams. We would need 3 or 4 more seasons in the PL to recover from the loss of tv money from the 2020/21 season

Unless the situation gets completely terrible I doubt it. However it seems like clubs like Millwall, Rotherham and now Ipswich are being hit hard. Newcastle have lost two big players due to long covid. Its going to cause issues but season over? I don't see it myself.

If too many cancellations and games stacking up then instead of curtailing the season the PL may draw a line at say 2/3rds stage and positions stand at cut off point. Relegated after 26 games instead of 38. Is that possible inder PL rules. ?

They decided 75% of games. Anything less season is null and void.

I know you are good at rules and calculations etc, am I right in thinking that we would lose more money if this season becomes null and void and we are relegated in 2022 than if this season carries on and we get relegation in 2021?

Think it will depend what agreement they've come to with the tv companies. Don't think thats been announced yet. A %age of the money is based on final position. Think it will depend at what stage the season is cancelled. Whilst we are worried about relegation, how would they determine Champions League places etc.?

What do you mean relegated in 2022, we'll be back up in top 6.

You’re underestimating our ‘contract negotiation division’ headed up by Terry Robinson Jr. he foresaw this shitshow and had a ‘global pandemic clause’ put in all players contracts where they’ll play for free unless we are getting full whack from the tv companies.

I could see the season being cancelled if this strain hits the rest of the UK and hangs around, especially if the vaccine isn’t effective against it and so there is no date for a scheduled restart. Timings are going to be tight with Euro 2020 anyway so I could see them saying cancel this season and start again in August. I doubt at present they’d want to extend this season again so affecting 2020 and possibly quite badly the start of next season.

I seriously doubt they would relegate anyone yet, it is still to early even though we’d be the favourites obviously but the biggest issue would be the other leagues with promotion or relegation. No team would accept going down if they are a point or two behind safety or other teams being promoted if they are ahead by a few points.

They cannot extend this season - that has already been decided. Also decided if cancelled with less than 75% games played then it will be null and void. The issue is that 2021/22 season cannot be started later - it is already finishing earlier because the 2022/23 season is starting earlier due to the World Cup in Qatar in November/December 2022 - there will be a month break in the middle of that season. 2022/23 will also finish later.

The heartwarming optimism hasn't been soundly beaten out of the op...

How I long to feel that we'd one day benefit from the crazyness that constantly surrounds us when we're in the Premier league.
