I suppose it all depends on what you go to a match for.
I mean if we lose somebody's has to pay, and if your going to boo a super fit bloke it's best to do it from in the middle of a crowd where he can't get at you I'd say.....

Patently?

He has never even played a game in the Championship, so how can it be 'patently' when you haven't seen him play at this level.

Roll on the evening of 5/8 when you can post all manner of tripe about how shite he was. Even if he doesn't play, I wouldn't let that stop you.

Get the boot in man and give him a good kicking!
He was tripe against Stocksbridge PS, in a 9-0 romp.

So I am not at all sure that even this could be his level.

I take it you are one of the many that cheers raucously when CoOp boy wins a header that lands straight at an opponents feet ?

I'm sure he's a great lad. It's nothing personal. And I don't even mind him getting 5 mins at the end if we are chasing and going direct.

But overall, he is / was a Bizarre signing. A rare Tufty error.

Huge error. So much so we did not lose a game after we signed him and he was never on the losing side. The fact he played really well and took pressure off Sharp in big games such as Bolton, Scunny etc not to mention setting up winner at Peterborough. He tailed off and was really poor at Rochdale for instance and then was in and out. However, his signing allowed us to have an outlet ball and play slightly differently. He contributed quite a bit in the run in and proved to be a good signing in that he helped us go up.

Do I think he can step up to Champ? Not sure he can be a regular but he will be a useful lad in some games either starting or as a sub. If not he's had it as he cannot even play against Stocksbridge so might aswell pack up.

Incidentally your thoughts on Clarke's contrbution in the run in - another that you said was garbage and could not play with Sharp - what was it 6 in 6 - all playing with Sharp?

Sarcasm to one side, I seriously hope nobody. Quite an embarassing culture that has been with us for too long.

the way I saw it at the game was that no-one ever played him in. In fact I thought afterwards it reminded me of when no-one played Done in last season. Perhaps this is intentional and they draw defenders away from the action. Hanson certainly put himself in goal scoring positions many times. The other thing I noticed was when they hit him with a cross a couple of times at the back post and he headed towards the far corner was there anyone anticipating the tap in - no there wasn't.

All abart opinions.

I don't share yours and others.

It will be interesting to see what part Hans does indeed play next season.

My point was not really about next season. You said he was a mistake signing him and a Tufty error. We did not lose a game he played and helped us turn around a sticky spell. Just by helping us go up he proved a decent signing. If he does not contribute next year we move him on but I am not sure we paid more han £150,000 by all accounts and would prob get this back if we sold him.

After the first game that goes by without him scoring, you can take your pick from:

- Barren
- Lost a yard of pace
- His legs have gone!!
- He's only playing because he's a Blade
- It's impossible for X to play with Sharp!!
Please say we can sign 46 year old Lee Sharpe so we can say Sharpe can't play with Sharp and then argue about spellings til Doomsday.

I think I saw all of those during one lean spell in March.
They can't wait to stick the boot in where Billy's concerned.

To be fair it seems like a Blades thing but it's rampant at every club. Either that or a select few who shout loudest. Even last season we had people complaining although it was mostly about players not in the 11.

It's obvious you believe his impact on the side was crucial. My opinion differs. That is all. I don't believe he single handedly guided us to promotion. I don't believe his impact was any where near as significant as you make out. 1 goal in 13 is not good for a CF. Even a target man type. And in this role, you would expect more direct assists would you not ?

Still, if the mantra at S2 is to cheer when yet another CF is able to win headers that achieve precisely fuck all, what do I know eh !

Knobhead comment.

Nobody said that and if you carry on stealing straw men, Pinchy won't have enough.

Serious question. Do you think the Chief made a significant contribution in 2002/03?

He added nuisance value. He wasn't particularly agile or had swift feet like say, Deano, but he was strong and wasn't afraid to mix it up as a centre forward. and he would pop up onto a loose ball.

I'd take him over Porter, any day.

pommpey

Can't argue with that.

Back to the Chief then in 2002/3. As a non mobile rarely scoring target man, do you think he made a contribution?

It's not a trick question. You either see the value in a target man for a much wider contribution than just goals, or you don't.

I'm here all day, so take your time.

Chief was on a completely different page to Hans. You know this. You little tinker.

A footballer that could control and pass a football. High Player Specific Output. See where I'm going ?

I like my footballers to be able to control a football. Is this too much ?

That do it ?

Now. One back at you.

Do you cheer when big Hans wins a header that goes in the stand / to an opponent / anywhere other than to a teammate ??

I have asked this very question a dozen times or more. No one has ever replied.

Care to enlighten me ? I'm always keen to learn.

He's the nearest type of player to compare to Hanson in recent years. You somehow seem to have reinvented him as some kind of Currie-like maestro spraying passes all around the pitch. Chief lost plenty of ball but added value by holding the ball up allowing McCall, Tonge and Nuddy to pass and move. Hanson is not quite as good at this but is much more mobile and can rejoin the attack further up the field.

His goal scoring 'contribution' was about 1 in ten, so very similar to Hanson.

Of course not. It happens and it is frustrating. Fortunately I do not have my eyes closed to the flick ons and passes that do go to team mates.
I also note that at set pieces he often draws two defenders allowing space for Billy et al.

I have asked this very question a dozen times or more. No one has ever replied.

A dozen times? I've told you a million times not to exaggerate.

Mods, please do something about posts like this. Opinions based on facts and stats rather than good old straightforward dislike of a player.

Children read this forum.

Not read much of the thread, so assume this will already have been stated, 'the boo boys' whoever they are will not target anyone, however should anyone play consistently s**t and continue to be selected expect knowledgeable Blades fans to flag this up as not acceptable. Easy equation in play here, play well receive praise, play poorly receive flack.

If some Blades had their way we'd still be playing with the likes of Collins, Doyle, Monty and Porter because they 'try hard' instead of proper footballers we now have.

All the above are simply NGE for a football team.

Only in S2
