After Collins' goal on Tuesday, we now have 18 players who have scored league goals this season:

Lowton
Montgomery
Mendez-Laing
Hoskins
Doyle
Evans
Flynn
Slew
Williamson
Collins
Creswell
Maguire
Porter
Tonne
Clarke
McDonald
Quinn
Phillips

What is perhaps more interesting is that only 3 outfield players who have started a league game - McAllister, Williams and Jean-Francois - have failed to score a league goal (Though McAllister scored in the JPT). Three players who have played only as sub in league games - Beattie, Ertl and Bogdanovic - have also failed to score.

I believe the record number of league scorers in 1 season is 20 in 2008-09 and we may or may not beat this, but this season must be a record for the least number of players not scoring.

I like stuff like this...

I think we'd struggle to beat the tally of 2008/09. You'd like to think Beattie will grab at least one goal, but short of recalls for McAllister and Tonne from their loan spells, there's no one else left to score.

What does this say about us? I don't know how many players we've used this season compared to 2008/09, I think the high number of goalscorers that season was more down to a high number of loan signings throughout the season, whereas this season it's because everyone has got involved.

Tonne has already scored!

In 08-09, the following got league goals:

Halford
Cotterill
Morgan
Kilgallon
Henderson
J. Beattie
Lupoli (L)
Webber
Speed
Dyer (L)
Ward
C. Beattie (L)
Howard
O'Toole (L)
Sharp
Spring (L)
Quinn
Naughton
Bromby (L)
Eghiogu

Those on loan are marked L, so there were 6 of them that season, but there are 4 this season (Clarke, Phillips, Hoskins and Mendez-Laing), so it's not that different.

As for whether we can get up to 20 this season, as you say, you would expect Beattie to get 1 or 2 and maybe it's time for Jean Francois with him cutting inside from the left and unleashing a 30 yarder....

Let Simmo take a penalty?

Can't we use OG?

Nice to see goals coming from all over though.

Daniel Bogdanovic...shudder. Not missed; he should never have been signed. Where is he now?!

Will Ched make 30 goals this season? Considering that he missed quite a few games at the start of the season and he's currently on 18 goals, it's a distinct possibility.

Ah, ok. I thought he scored in the JPT, didn't realise it was in the league...just remembered, he scored against Bury at home.

Please ignore my crazed ramblings from now on!

He scored in both :)

I work it to 19 at the moment.

14 in the league I think, so the challenge laid down to Mr Evans should be 30 in the league: 16 in the last 17 games. A hat-trick on the 26th would be a good way to get there.

A wide breadth of goalscorers amongst our squad would indicate that we play good passing, flowing football i think? We already know that of course, but this is further proof. In the dutch system of 'total football' there are no concrete positions, the entire team is a fluid force where the goalscorer is almost arbitrary in that it's whoever's on the end of the final ball in attack. I don't think we're quite there yet though :)

Having said that even though we do have so many goal scorers, the majority of the goals have come from our strikers, so we're still pretty normal in that regard.

At Swillsborough on 26th Feb, last minute 30 yarder (or should that in PC terms be metres) to make it 5-0, or a last minute winner, either way I am not bothered.
Dreams can come true

Blackwell's 20 goalscorers of 2008/09 contradicts that somewhat... ;-)

I'm resurrecting this old thread because if Beattie or O'Halloran score in the next two games, not only will we get promoted but I think we equal the club record for most league goalscorers in a season (19). If both score we break the record with 20 scorers.

N.B. I know you (Darren) said there were 20 league goalscorers in 2008/2009 but according to official website Ehiogu didn't score.

He bloody did!

Well he was missing from this list:- http://www.sufc.co.uk/page/Goalscorers/0,,10418~200810418,00.html

and this list:- http://www.sheffieldunited-mad.co.uk/results_fixtures/2008_2009/sheffield_united/index.shtml

So I assumed you'd got it wrong. But of course I should have known better! Sorry. :)

So both need to score for us to equal the club record then.

Seriously, I would trust me more than the SUFC website :)

By the way, one more win will see us beat the club record for league wins in a season, a win on Saturday will see us beat the record for number of home wins in a season and a win at Exeter will equal the the record number of away wins in a season.

As well as BT and OHalloran, you can add other players to the list of other players likely to be part of the match day squads in some capacity:
Hill
Taylor
Williams

Philliskirk could potentially get a run in the next two games give the striker shortage

And the only two others that could possibly feature, depending on fitness
Morgs
Ertl
(but both unlikely to)
