No probs.
As an offshoot from my post. That page was from the SUFC v. Bradford City programme from 4th April 1988. Bassett had come in, in the January and it sits in the period of the end of one era & the start of a new beautiful one.
We'd lost the previous match away at Boro 6-0. The away game before that we'd lost 5-0 to Leeds. We lost that match v. Bradford, lost to Birmingham (Withe scoring the winning goal), beat Plymouth, drew with WBA, lost to Reading & beat Huddersfield, before losing over 2 legs in the PO's to Bristol City from the league below. We finished the season 3rd from bottom on 46 points and minus 29 goals. WBA were 4th from bottom with 47 points & minus 19, and Birmingham 48 points and minus 26 goals. The two shellackings v. Leeds & Boro, the 1-0 away loss to Birmingham with our loan player scoring the winner and the 0-0 home draw v. WBA, did for us. We were poor that season, but 4 games dictated it. We also had the final indignity of losing to Bristol City.
Wally Downes picking up 2 reds in 9 appearances in that run in, I think.
Villa had won the European Cup & European Super Cup six years before.
