Hopefully.... Leeds fall apart and we carry on playing like we are - there you go, promotion to the prem !

We currently have the 2nd best goals against so aren't too bad defensively and the 2nd best gd . 2 forwards with 25 goals between them.
Whenever we've played prem teams of late we've acquitted our selves really well beating several and pushing spurs to the last 3 minutes of the semi and man Utd to an extra time winner
We don't lose 7 at man city like some
Wed have stayed up last time if the prem actually punished cheating teams
This squad is much better than Warnocks in depth and skill

How many of this squad is the same as the one from the Spurs games.

Go on. I'll tell you. Basham.

How many of Spurs? About eight of them.

Man U?

I'll tell you. It's a bit better. Sharp, Basham and Coutts (out on the right wing that night)

Man United? About five of them.

So, what you're saying is a bit erm … daft.

...who are you keeping in the starting team, who's staying for squad depth and who would you let depart if an offer comes in?

Let's presume the formation stays as it is. And no, this isn't me getting ahead of myself, I just thought it might make for an interesting debate.

Give all the lads that got us promotion a go in the Prem, of course buy 1 or 2 quality additions but instead of wasting the sky money on a lot of foreign mercenaries who care f*** all about United, use most of the television income on turning the Lane into a palace, the pride of Yorkshire, the biggest, grandest and best stadium in the broad acres (Scarborough cricket ground notwithstanding) .

Oh yes, and that. The money should be spent on building a new Kop. And so what if we have reduced capacity for a season.

Well, cos it'll be reduced for certain, the season after.

Players first. Ground later. BDTBL holds 32k. We don't completely fill it even now. New roof for the kop at the most and take the Tout En Cas (or whatever it was called) pillars away.

Not been discussed so far but an interesting question comes to mind on the back of this. If we went up would the club freeze ticket prices or jack them up, say a fiver all round, to reflect the quality of football on show? If it was the latter most of our fans would have an apoplectic attack.

So . Was it not sheffield United

We are better now than then .
We don't need 23 new squad members to compete in the prem that's fucking daft
Hull and Huddersfield stayed up with very ordinary teams

Some in here didn't think we'd stay up in this division . Such is their in built defeatism

It's half-way through the season and we're third in the league, two points off the automatic spots. It's not exactly ridiculous optimism. It's a quiet day at work and I thought it made for an interesting topic of conversation. But ta for putting me in a box with "one of them S6 clowns".
5 page thread and counting, other members must be finding this debate as interesting as I do, no problem with this OP at all!

If we get past Barnet on Saturday I hope we draw someone like Crystal Palace away.

Now without jeopardizing our promotion chances I would like us to play our strongest team as possible and see how they deal with a 'mid to bottom' of the Premier league opposition.

Should this be successful I'd like us to draw someone like Bournemouth or Everton at home and once again use that game as a measure of how our squad and our style of play shapes up against a 'towards the top' of the Premier league club.

Having said all that I'm pretty sure over at S6 they'll be making out we are really getting ahead of ourselves.

Very ordinary teams?

Both Hull and Hudds spent, but by no means in enough value to the playing staff to match PL oppositions

Hull City survived 2012-2014 and 2017 in the PL. They are now in free fall. I seem to remember that fate bestowed upon us.

Huddersfield are currently rock bottom.

It isn't defeatism. The only reason we have stayed up is Wilder. His stock in trade will certainly struggle a league above. Again, look at the current PL, take away any three from HTFC, the Geordies, Burnley, Cardiff and Southampton insert Norwich and Leeds and tell me where we would get forty four points.

Stay up then spend the 100m you get wisely
36 points has sufficed in all but 3 PL seasons

Genuinely hate threads like this! ...to think players don't read forums is naive, and there are discussions about who you would bin off if these players worked their arse off and got us promoted, what a great incentive that is for them.

Should the players get us promoted, I'd like to see them be given a fair crack at the Premier League, obviously there will be incomings to improve/increase competition for places (as there should be every season) but to suggest we should get rid of first team players in this eventuality, is a joke. Luckily for us, I think Wilder would want his first team players to keep improving and stay with him should we get promoted.

Stop it. Stop this thread right now!

Our only focus right now is Barnet in the cup and at a push QPR in the league.

Let's enjoy the journey and set aside this tomfoolery before it gets out of hand!

:D

Alright precious. I didn’t label you as one of them, it was the post. It’s something they’d put after going on a surge of 7 points from 9 won. If we had only taken 1 point from the last 3 games it would have looked a lot different (no we didn’t I know) I’d rather, ....Let’s see where we are on the 16th of March. 10 of the next 12 games we could drop points in. One of the games we should win we lost last year, Bolton at home.

I think CW will do what he has done upto now and relocate the players who don't get used and replace them with players that will. Remove the bottom and replace them with the top. So much as I like the bloke Jake Wright would leave along with Lafferty, Cranie, Freeman maybe even Lundstram, Clarke and Washington. Chris Wilder is both ruthless and fair, replacements for these players would be first teamers and the others would have to fight for their places. So all current first teamers bar Hendo and Dowell would remain unless Hendo is allowed to stay or signs. These players would then fight for their place. There would have to be a replacement for Dowell also. In summery 2 CH, 2 WB 2 Strikers 2 CM (1 AM). I think this would be done over two windows to evolve rather than all at once.

as a cautionary tale look at Fulham
best footballing team in the championship last season

got up spent a fortune on "better" players

only getting results now they are playing the lads who got them up

this ridiculous idea players that can get you out of what is the most competitive division in europe cant hack it in the prem is nonsense
tweeking , yes , wholesale changes disrupt the squad and destroy the spirit and cancel any momentum

so just the 9 then

4 tops at first we have better players than people think

So all the players are useless cunts then hes controlling like robots

what bollocks

we have some really good talent within our squad
we are playing good football because ,,,, think about it ,,, we have good players

you get div 1 players you get in div 1

we are well inside the toip 6 of the championship , so ergo we have at least top 6 championship players

football is really simple
you do well with better players , we are doing well

As I said over the two windows Summer and Jan '20. But you think only 4, name which of the players I suggested will cut it in the prem considering they are not 1st teamers in the championship.

Yeah. But theres a difference between 'give them a game' and 'beat them'. We gave Spurs a 'game' a few years ago in the League Cup, both home and away. But they beat us. See also Hull in the Semi Final.

So, who would we beat, with this side? Newcastle? Burnley? Huddersfield? Fulham?

As we've seen before, it's the points which matter.

pommpey

He isn't disputing that there's a difference in those two statements?

You seem intent on winding people up mate.

Your point makes logical sense but I do wonder if Wilder has a bit of the “Brian Clough” factor about him.
Clough could sign average players from outside the top flight and a few months later the same players would be world beaters and breaking into international football. Clough would sell on the same players to other clubs (Gary Birtles to Man Utd) and their form would immediately suffer and were never the same player elsewhere.

I really believe that Wilder knows players have strengths and weaknesses
And he just designs tactics and a way of playing where players are playing to their strengths all the time, so they perform better than their actual standard.

Best to keep an open mind regards how these players would do in the PL.
We need to remind ourselves that Wilder seems to have this very rare knack of performing miracles.

Hes got the psychology of footballers off pat
How hes nursed McGoldrick from discarded injury prone downbeat individual into a fit fresh and happy to be playing goal scorer

I was talking to a Huddersfield fan earlier bemoaning their lack of a Plan B. They're being caught and punished on the counter and don't have the quality or money to compete.

We're struggling to keep clean sheets in this league. I think if we play the same way with roughly the same players we'd get spanked fairly regularly.
