...who are you keeping in the starting team, who's staying for squad depth and who would you let depart if an offer comes in?

Let's presume the formation stays as it is. And no, this isn't me getting ahead of myself, I just thought it might make for an interesting debate.

Starting line up ?

With 3 or 4 Premiership standard signings this month, and 4 or 5 more in the close Season ...

I would expect that team to be unrecognisable from todays team ........

First XI - Hendo (assuming we sign him permanently), O'Connell, Egan, Stevens, Norwood, Fleck, Sharp.

I think we would need a new RB, CB, AM and Striker - plus reinforcements for the bench. I think another very good CM would be required too, possibly someone who is more of a defensive mid, to switch things up a bit.

i'd take that, with Basham, Duffy, Coutts and some of the up and coming youth on the bench/squad players

I Think Wilder would look at the Bournemouth model and keep the majority of the team together that have worked their way up from Lg1 & Champ.

5 or 6 new squad signings and I think we’d be more than capable of competing with Burnley, Brighton, Newcastle, Southampton etc.

Keep Deano, 2xStrikers, a tough CM to rival Fleck in the squad & a RWB.

That’s quite enough of this sort of thing.......

Careful what you wish for changing too many players.

Look at Fulham this year compared to Wolves. Wolves have added some select few to an already good squad. Fulham have replaced most of their promotion squad.

And I actually thought Fulham's acquisitions were spot on. Signing Schurrle, Seri and Mawson, getting Mitrovic on a permanent. I think they screwed it up at the back, though.

I’m not going to start slating our players by saying they’re not good enough for us whilst they’re still in the process of doing a very good job for us. For me, this is definitely an end of season debate if it were to happen at all.

we're good - in fact we are excellent on our day, but we have a number of key players we simply cannot afford to lose one way or another.

Egan, Norwood and Billy are at present irreplaceable and a 60 minute Duffy is playing at the top of his game - you are looking at the entire spine of the team with those 4.

Most teams need good fortune, we need it a bit more than our competitors. Get that and a quality striker and it's definitely on.

Good fortune is our main concern - our A team and formation has been good enough all season - I dread another Coutts type situation more than anything.

No TALK of IF we get promoted - there's a long way to go

A mildly interesting thought.....

Who knows which of our current squad will adapt to the demands of the Premiership? After several horrible seasons in Division 1, I now reflect and find it hard to imagine a player like Basham shaping up to be one of our most consistent performers in the Championship, but here we are, Bash is a shoe-in these days, so who knows which of our current squad will blossom in the Prem? Looking at Bournemouth's team, I'd imagine that they must have had the same thoughts.....in fact a regular for them is the former Blade Francis, looking like a quality player who somehow couldn't cope at United.

We sign Henderson and keep the main spine of the team
Then constantly belittle ourselves with comments like "We're just happy to be here" "We're all enjoying ourselves" "We're aiming for 17th place"
"We can't compete with ambitious Championship clubs let alone Premier League clubs"

That'll get everyone up for it

One thing to bare in mind looking at the PL table now

It is nearly over for the bottom 3, the January window is not gonna help em, and its what we did the last time

This should be being sorted now ................

It’s hard to call right now. Some players could be written off but then excel at a higher level, Morgan springs to mind the last time we were up there.

Bournemouth are a great side to look at with that in mind. Players like Charlie Daniels, Steve Cook and Ryan Fraser were with them in League One!

genuinely i wouldnt change that much i think it would be more strength in depth as i would keep 9 of the 11 & them would be on the bench

Henderson
Baldock Basham Egan O'Connell Stevens
Fleck Norwood Duffy
Sharp Mcgoldrick

Henderson
Baldock New CB Egan O'Connell Stevens
Fleck Norwood Duffy
Sharp New Striker

Basham New Rb New CB Coutts new CM
new Att Mid McGoldrick

If you look how they lined up against us last season at Craven Cottage and in brackets what they've done this season:

  1. Bettinelli (7 apps)
  2. Fredericks (let his contract expire, joined WHU - 4 apps for WHU)
  3. Ream (11 apps)
  4. Odoi (18 apps)
  5. Targett (Back to S'oton after loan - 9 apps for SFC)
  6. Johansen (12 apps)
  7. Cairney (16 apps)
  8. McDonald (10 apps)
  9. Mitrovic (all)
  10. Ojo (Back to LFC after loan - now playing in France L1)
  11. Sessegnon (19 apps)
That is the core of the team that got them promoted and they've not played loads in the first 21 games. The numbers above are appearances, i'm not sure how many were starts. Of the players that are still there, only Sessegnon and Mitrovic are nailed on for their place.

Letting Fredericks go for me is their biggest mistake of the summer.

Fraser wasn't, he signed for them when they were doing well in the championship. A lot of their players are still around though from their League 1 days: Simon Francis, Marc Pugh and Harry Arter are 3 more.

Fredericks wanted to be Fulham's best-paid player. He turned down their contract offer and went to West Ham instead. A lot of Fulham fans were pretty annoyed. Given this is a right-back demanding to be the club's biggest earner, I can see why. A mistake to let his contract run down, sure, but you see the bind they were in.

Otherwise, I think you make it seem worse than it actually was. Cairney would have played more had he not suffered with injuries early on in the season. Odoi is a first-teamer. Mawson has replaced Ream at centre back while of course they needed to get new full backs to replace Targett and Fredericks leaving. Then in midfield, Seri, Chambers and Schurrle have replaced McDonald, Johansen and Ojo. Sessegnon and Mitro have kept their places. Cairney's competition is mostly from Kamara, who was with Fulham last year.

Up and coming youth on the bench if we get to the Premiership ??

Absolutely no chance what so ever.

It would be wonderful if it happened but no, no chance.

Harry Arter is at Cardiff, but I get your point.
