There are similarities between Keith Eddy and MacDonald but If my memory is not playing tricks Eddy was more defensive. Both had a good passing ability and neither is a 'runner' or has pace, preferring to spray things around from the middle. They don't look alike though.

Eddy was multi functional for his day, he could play centre half or wing half (central defender or midfield, he could hold or get forward). He was not blessed with pace but had a great football brain and thought well ahead of most of those around him. He was effectively a direct replacement for Hockey, though their styles were totally different.
Woody always rated Eddy as one of the best players he ever played with.
As ever with the Lane faithful, not everyone appreciated Eddy's gifts!

>Different rules apply to The Maestro. He simply has to play at all costs. His brand of mediocrity is hard to replicate
heh quality.. :D.. we're still here :)

>Doyle was good against Colchester
funny.. i thought he was dreadful.. the only time he actually kicked the ball he made a complete mess of it and gave them a one on one.. i must go to different games

As already been said elsewhere Super-pig Doyle was that bad he made the team of the week. Doesnt say much for Mcdonald

I was a big fan LSF though I too remember him more as the 'second' centre-back, if you will.

He was resolute, could pass effectively rather than spectacularly, strong in the tackle and a real leader. If I remember correctly Furphy bought him? I'm not much for record books and my memories are fading in my advancing years. I saw his debut in the Watney (ugh!) Cup final at Bristol.

He was captain by the time the impossibly handsome Jimmy Sirrell became manager and played pretty much all his Blades career in a declining team.

I see what you mean about the K-Mac comparison and there are similarities but I'd see McDonald as a significantly more creative player. Keith Eddy did have an eye for a goal though. I remember we won 3-2 on match of the Day from 2-0 down. Was it Chelsea? Anyway Keith scored a good 'un. Maybe the winner if I recall correctly?

He was our third best ever signing from Watford! Sounds like faint praise but the two ahead of him are Currie and Agana.

I think he'd make my top 25 Blades list, if I had one!

Interesting assertion Pinchy. I always saw Eddy as primarily a midfielder and a good back up central defender if needed. The old half back line of Flynn Colquhoun Eddy, would have had (in my mind anyway) Flynn & Colquhoun as the central defensive pairing with Eddy at the side of TC doing his spade work with a bit more finesse than Trevor Hockey did (not to say that TH was ineffective in what he did!).
Not sure if it was Everton rather than Chelsea you allude to on MOD when KE scored a belter?
TC deffo best signing from Hornets (no brainer of course), Agana/Eddy...hmmm difficult to split for me but see where you come from (I always had a childlike admiration for Barry Hartle in my real young days but thats cos he was nice to me when i was a ball boy :-)

Watneys (Keg red barrell) why did I drink that shit?? Moonshine, Farmers Blonde, Absolution..... heaven! :-)

There you are you see. I'd convinced myself he actually replaced John Flynn rather than playing in the same team. Anyway, Keith was a good player in either position.

I think it may have been Everton as well. I'm sure TC and Woody got the other two?

A few years earlier, another who, like KE, was a big favourite of mine, is Colin Addison. I can still see him nodding home as we knocked a great Everton team out of the cup. I'd just been discharged from the Children's Hospital on the Thursday before the match. Great days.

Watney's Red Revolution! It led to the formation of the Campaign for Real Ale!
