According to the Stir - "The Blades had the third highest possession in the league over the weekend’s matches with 66 per cent, behind Brentford on 69 per cent and Derby County who had an impressive 74 per cent possession against Bolton Wanderers.

What they fail to tell us of course is that despite that - Brentford drew and Derby lost.

Possession is no good if you're static!

There's a huge change in how sides play though, effective counter attacking is just as important and rewarding as keep ball.

I had a bet on some Hambury the other week in play. They'd 78 percent possession and the oppo hadn't even had any dangerous attacks.....

Game ended with similar possesion, again the oppo barely any attacks or attempts, they still managed to win.... 1-5!

They also failed to mention that despite Derby's 'impressive 74%' they didn't manage to win either half costing me £209

Derby only had 1 shot on target all match, which is worrying for them.
Bolton (typically) parked the bus and Derby’s play was too slow and deliberate meaning they couldn’t break them down.

It's counted as our possession while it's in the air if we kicked it up there!

It’s not how much you’ve got but what you do with it.

You don’t score without the ball.

Hoofers are raising their heads above the parapet on a daily basis now.

Nobody bothers to promulgate stats when the team having the greater share of possession wins, that being far more often than the converse, but rejoice when minority possession prevails. Luckily, I see it coming a mile away and rip off the hoofers’ masks to reveal the grotesque monsters of anti-football beneath.

We ❤️ Not Having the Ball.

Only in S2.

Not sure I believe the BBC statistics. I’ve been to plenty of games where the statistics bore no resemblance to the match I saw! Furthermore I have always wondered how they are done. For example if the ball goes out for a goal kick does that mean that the defending team are in possession from when the ref or linesman signals the kick? As we have frequently seen goalkeepers these days are masters of time wasting and can easily take up to a minute to get the ball , mess about placing it at the far side of the 6 yard box, walk back, kick the goal post to clear their boots, look up to decide where they are going to kick it, raise their arms to signal what they are going to do etc..10 goal kicks a game can easily take 5 minutes which is over 5% of the game!
