How long did it take Coutts to come good? Or Lunny? I know we paid a lot for the kid but he's played half a dozen games FFS.

It's the lack of determination that worries me most. Doesn't seem to want it, or to compete or put himself about.
It's OK to lack match fitness, sharpness or whatever but I thought he'd have shown stronger character. He seems a bit daunted by everything. Even when he receives the ball, he looks to get rid of it, safely, as quickly as possible.
He doesn't move off the ball, Baldock looked really frustrated by this in the 2nd half. He doesn't make himself available, or make a purposeful run to drag a defender away to create space. He just stands there.
There was a couple of occasions when the ball went up in the air & he was really nesh challenging for it. He's a unit at 6'4, he should be making it his.
Maybe our system isn't suited to him. I don't know. But it isn't working.
Wilder's not daft, he'll see what we're seeing. I don't expect him to be in the XI again next match.
He’s not unfit. Fitness was never his issue, fitting in with the team and the style of play is and was. That’s going to get no better with 3 months of no football is it? Think about it. The sharpness of the whole team was lacking hugely today. It's a bit sad that fans can't be critical of a player - even one who cost £22m.
It really is quite simple - Lunny, Norwood and Fleck easily pick themselves at present so Berge won't get a look in except for injuries or as a 2nd half substitute- and that is sad for the amount we invested in him.
Some say give him time - what is really sad for me is that he still seems way behind others even with a 3 month period where I would have hoped he would have got much fitter - it seems not.
He isn't going to get in the team playing like that so something HAS to change going forward with Berge.
As a team we didn't miss JOC as Villa were dire and Robinson did ok. We really missed Fleck and what he brings and Lunny was ineffective on the left.
Our strength is our midfield and we didn't win because the midfield suffered with the changes and made both Bill and McB look poor up top.
The game went just as the first Bundesliga games went and tbf City v Arsenal isn't much better up to half time.
Villa are rubbish and haven't worked out anything during the 3 month layoff to make them better.
Relegated for me: Norwich, Villa and Brighton.

I agree with the second part of your post, but the first is very questionable at the least. Find me 1 footballer who will be fitter after this 3 months break, I guarantee you will not find 1 and to suggest that berge should be is quite frankly ludicrous. It's a bit sad that fans can't be critical of a player - even one who cost £22m.

Some of you lot on here, good god, what moaning bitches you are. Over 3 months not training properly,no sharpness training,no togetherness over lockdown,no crowd stimulation and you expect an immediate continuation of the previous 6 months, unbelievable. As for singling out players, have a good look at yourselves. I trust Wilder a lot more than your snide imbecile comments that you spew out.
He's a bit of Matic, Busquets or Carrick type who's not fully up to speed with PL football. Remember watching Gérard Pique playing for Man U and he looked a weak and easily bullied defender, didn't do too bad after moving to Barcelona.
I think the fact besic has been in English football for 6+ years works in his favour though?Since we've gone up we really have got the forum police on the go telling us we're not allowed to criticise someone who gets paid per week what I get paid per year.
No one is saying he's not a good player
No one is saying he's not playing out of position
What quite a few are saying is that he doesn't seem to be showing any desire. I'm not criticising his fitness, although it should be better. I'm criticising his determination and desire to win a tackle or get to a ball. Which seems non-existent at the moment.
Besic has had significantly less opportunities and has done significantly better.

I still think in his defence:
- we play a unique system that can’t be easy to pick up immediately
- he came in and lived in a hotel before finding a flat, probably had no time to move properly until the winter break
- comes back from the break and he’s in a new place with access to nobody for 3 months
- He’s playing out of position
don’t want to make excuses for him but I still think he’ll come good.
Anyone slagging Berge off has zero patience.
Anyone slagging McBurnie off still is a moron.
