Can't keep the ball, rushing everything, Evans and then Boggy unable to control or keep hold of the ball hoofed up to them.
No point in signing an alleged passer of the ball if that's not the 'aim' of our game.
Usual kudos for attitude - Ward outstanding in particular - but we need more than effort.

One day just one day i would really like you to be happy.

I can't believe you're not yet bored of trying to wind people up after 1,526 posts...you sad sad individual.

'lenners' is proved wrong again and again but continues typing rubbish, hoping for as many replies as he can get for his kick. No point debating with a wind-up merchant.

Damm and i thought we had a team that had a divine right to walk the championship

The "alleged passer of the ball" did rather well for the goal.

He did - it was an excellent bit of football.
Other than that, the midfield were awful at retaining possession and getting near the isolated front man.

Really? Instead of personalising, why not deal with the points raised?
If you think we retained possession well, point out how this was so.
If you think our front men kept control of the ball well and brought the midfield or wide players into the game, point out how this was so.
It didn't happen. Britton produced one good, intelligent bit of football for the goal but otherwise the midfield were very poor.

We kept possession reasonably well, we still had 52% of the ball with 10 men before they scored. Admittedly it was one-way traffic after that, but that was to be expected. I thought Evans did really well today, normally I'm on your side about him Len.

I don't agree about Ward though. Yes he showed great fight for us, but his gamesmanship wound me up no end.

I thought Ward's effort was outstanding today. The fact that most of their attacking threat came down our left (sorry Tayls, you're not good enough) after Lowton got sent off says a lot but in general I thought he kept going and managed to run forward a couple of times - which no-one else was able to do.
Ched scored a goal - a minor miracle in itself - but not much more to suggest he's capable of holding the ball, running with it, bringing others into play, winning the ball in the air etc, etc.
I hope the goal spurs him on but still looks way short of a £3m player to me.

Couldn't agree more on that one.

As for Ward, his performance and effort was great, but his time wasting, feigning injury, and failure to kick the ball back to their 'Keeper really rankled. I know we were down to 10 men and it could be seen as good professionalism, but I don't like to see it.

It would have annoyed me too, but watching it recorded on V+ I could fast forward through the shots of Ward lying down. :)

Dont let it upset you. Most of us would have been expecting one of len's recycled posts shortly after the game and there we have it (in little over an hour). I have to say I'm surprised it took him that long. The guy will never be happy at anything United do and cant see the good in anything. Many have tried to make him look on the bright side but it is a lost cause so just leave it. If you want a more balanced and realistic view of the game here you go..........

The general story of events today in my view:-

- Cardiff had the better of the opening spell but United stood up to it fairly well.

- United scored a well crafted and well taken goal against the run of play which was deserved as we were denided a stone wall penalty.

- The Lowton sending off was diabolical I dont care what way they want to twist it. It was a 50/50 ball and he had every right to go for it. A yellow card would have been appropriate.

- United couldn't ever really get into their stride because as soon as we scored the goal the whole complexion of the game changed as did our shape - due to the sending off!

- Some old fashioned determination and dogged defending got us a deserved point.

In summary:- United got a good point from a very difficult fixture, which was made even more difficult by the officiating. To measure the merit of our side on that game would be unfair. Not just because it is the first game but because of the way it panned out. United had to alter their approach twice throughout the game which upset the balance of the side. We started passing the ball well once we had settled but that was quickly ruined by the sending off.

I have however seen enough today to suggest we have something about us and that we have something different in our locker in comparison to last season. In other words there is something to work with but we need to push on from here and get better. All in all, we did well but there is still work to do.

UTB

I for one was more than happy with both the result and the rearguard action that was required as soon as the referee did his job and sent off a Blades player at the first opportunity.

That pretty much sums up how I feel as well. There were a number of positives to take from today as well as a number of things to work on.

Quite surprised at all the negative comments on here I thought all in all it was a great point today we had 10 mend for an hour don't forget. I for one was surprised by the team selected thought we went into it very positive.

Same old, same old indeed.

No difficulty predicting this from you, Len old boy, although the praise for the pigs crowd yesterday was a bit further than I expected you'd go...

Just what I was thinking! How ironic: the title and content of the OP.

A word of praise for our £0.75m striker Leonard?

Well I thought it was a decent point to take from a tough team that came at us, we made mistakes but its the first game and the sending of changed the enitre shape of the game. Good point.

UTB!

Hardly raul, what he said was:-

"Ched scored a goal - a minor miracle in itself - but not much more to suggest he's capable of holding the ball, running with it, bringing others into play, winning the ball in the air etc, etc.
I hope the goal spurs him on but still looks way short of a £3m player to me"

What I saw was:-

Evans should have had a penalty, didn't complain, got up and had the vision to move into space to be in a position to strike the ball cleanly and put us 1-0 up.

I'm not convinced by Evans either yet, the difference is I'm pleased for him, not mealy-mouthed and grudging, like lenners.

By the time Lowton had gone off, our lone striker, Evans or Bogdanovic, was always going to be struggling to hold the ball up, he was thirty yards away from a team mate.

Good point Len. Why didn't Evans keep the ball despite there being no one within 30 yards of him and therefore being marked by 2 or 3 players?

He should of held them all off while support considering if it could be bothered or not.

With 11 men all front 3 swapped positions with Ched coming deep on occasion Wardy going left and so on. It was good to see. I was concerned at how easily we lost possession on a few occasions but we didn't get a fair impression with 10 men.

A big plus is that Evans is off and running, and no doubt Len will continue to look more and more desperate as the weeks go on for him to fail.

In fairness to len, he's never demonstrated much understanding of football (or anything very much relating to SUFC), but what he's likely to do is start to be gradually more positive about Ched (cf Jamie Ward, terrible signing, now outstanding, original criticism forgotten).
