I have just received an email from the club which includes:

The club will be allowing those who are undecided an opportunity to try out the new seating on Monday 8th September 4/6PM or Thursday 11th September 1/3PM just turn up at the fan zone enterance.

the email mail also includes the code of conduct for safe standing areas, i haven't read that yet.

It is quite easy if you are a season ticket holder and want to move from your seat in the Kop or other stand to the standing area. You have the opportunity to do so.
On the other hand, your season ticket is in the safe standing area. You don't want to stand, you can move further down the Kop MM downward or to other stands.NN is the best row to stand in; the row in front has to remain seated. With all due respect, if you are 5ft 4in, get a seat in NN.you will be able to see the game then.

You don't get much choice regardless of if you want to sit or stand at an away game. I'm sure some would rather sit for parts of the game if the person in front wasn't stood up throughout.

I'm making the point that there are far more people than what Pedro etc was suggesting want to stand, just by simple looking at any away game, where more often than not now the ticket is safe standing anyway. You buy an away ticket, you accept you will stand.

One thing that some "doesn't need to be that much not that much stand now anyway" is that we've probably got an example in this thread of someone in row UU who has said "great news" and someone sat behind them in row VV saying "this is so unfair I have sat here since 1948", and they only don't notice the likes of those in front of them standing all the time because said people in front of them aren't narcissistic pricks

Just had a phone call from the ticket office about moving my seat, all sorted for the Southampton game.

She did say they’re calling everyone that’s emailed or sit in one of the affect seats. 👍🏻

No problem with a standing area but 3,000 is way over the top.
We currently typically have around 8,000 to 8,500 on the kop and there's no way 3,000 of them are usually standing.
I think they would.
In cup matches with seats available we had youngsters sat near us who were much more lively, stood and sang.
Allowing this young blood to concentrate in one area, along with livelier long term fans will help.

I've already been told that the only tickets currently available are restricted view or sides. If you go onto the ticket site you'll see that centrally there are barely any seats available. How is this going to work then? Cos obviously I'd love to swap my central, high up seat for a restricted view seat, that will do just fine 🙄

Well I’m right above the letter S and I’ve paid for a seat this season so I shall be sitting come what may ( given the start to the season I don’t suppose I will be missing much), I know a lot of people around me (practically all of them actually) are not happy at this being foist upon them with zero consultation, so I’m guessing the atmosphere will be significantly worse rather than improved. UTB
The noise of the grumbling might be louder than the songs of support!

Will the introduction of safe standing affect the capacity? Or will it be just like for like so no change?

Yes, but I stand up the equivalent of 10 mighty men.

Hanging on, that could be misconstrued....
