Okay so there are wild rumours that the weather is about to change for the better, we thought we'd look at getting another S24SU.com FootGolf trip organised.
Feedback was universally positive following our first trip last August (click here for scores, comments and photos), where 16 of us played in 4 teams of 4, so lets see if we can't have another decent trip the the Centre of Excellence in Donny
.
What is FootGolf?
It's what it sounds really, a combination of football and golf. Players play with a size 5 football and essentially have to kick the ball in the hole in as few kicks as possible. Similar to golf, the courses feature bunkers, trees, water hazards etc.
We're new to the sport, even those who had a go last year, it should be a good laugh regardless of scores!
You can read more over at http://www.ukfootgolf.com/ and a quick search of Youtube for FootGolf will give you some videos.
What do I have to wear?
No football boots or blades (the footwear kind
) are allowed, players should wear trainers or astroturf boots. With the High Melton course being the national centre and therefore owned by the UK FootGolf association, moulded studs are also allowed on this course.
It is recommended that players wear a collared shirt and either plain shorts or trousers at all courses. As a sport they promote the traditional golfing attire – long socks, long shorts, collared shirts and a traditional golf hat which is apparently proving very popular with players, but they don't enforce this for regular play and we're pretty much welcome to wear what we are comfortable playing in.
Great, when are we playing?
In terms of days when the most people are likely available, I'm going to propose Friday 3rd April (Good Friday), which is the day before Barnsley away. We'll not make it ridiculously early, but we'll have a morning "tee-off", perhaps 09:30?.
I've already enquired about availability and will get it booked as soon as we have enough people confirmed to make it worthwhile. In terms of costs, assuming that the majority who have expressed an interest will come along, I'd imagine we're looking at around £7.50 per person for 18 holes, certainly under £10 each.
In terms of transport, I'll leave it open to what people want to do. I'm sure there are enough drivers amongst us to make sure everyone can get there and back... but can always look at some sort of minibus or something, should we have enough people to make it worthwhile.
Everyone is welcome and consider this an open invite to all S24SU members... I'd appreciate if people would vote in the poll to register their interest (We need to know ASAP who is serious about turning up) and please add any comments by replying.
