Norwich have released him, might be worth a shout to replace Landell

So long as the shout is "NO FUCKING WAY"

Last thing we need are cast offs from PL/Championship sides.

Tufty has built this team on hungry pups who want to play at the next level.

No doubting the hunger but one common theme in Wilder's team is experience. The youngest starter this season was 20 year old Joe Riley in a much changed side at Bristol Rovers; next youngest are Carruthers, Lavery, O'Connell and Long at 23. The average age of an appearance maker at United, weighted on number of appearances ([PlayerStarts*PlayerAge]/[sumofStarts]) is 27.26.

Even our subs are old: the only teenager to get on the field in a league game this season is Harry Chapman at 19 (12 sub appearances).

My mate who supports Norwich says he would be like Nyron Nosworthy! No thanks!

If memory serves me correct, he's left footed - would be cover from JOC rather than at the right side of Defence.

Oh dear we don't want to go back there again :D

Definitely not! He'd command big wages too. Would rather one of the likes of Sonny Bradley at Plymouth, Tom Lockyer at Bristol Rovers or Christian Burgess at Pompey.

Leeds and Fulham reportedly interested, so can't be a total donkey.

Just a partial donkey then.

No, ta.

I think wages would rule us out of this one, but why are so many quick to dismiss a player like Bassong yet are happy to sign Ricky Holmes? Bassong is only a year older!

I'd rather sign a 31 year old who has Premiership and Championship experience than a 30 year old who has only played one season at League One level.

Because we've signed a few players on their way down that turned out to be bad buys, doesn't mean they're all going to be shit!

Waste of space. His career has just gone slowly downhill and his decision making has always been poor. I get the impression he's going through the motions. Not the type we want.

Lockyer has a stat this season that no defender wants, most mistakes for a defender all season I think it is. Burgess looks a decent player, think pompey fans would be in tears if we took him as well as Stevens, he's got a History degree as well I believe, if that makes any difference.

I didn't know that re Lockyer bit their fans seem to really rate him and he's still young at 22, plenty of time to develop. That said I'm only going on that really, not watched him much.

I feel we do need an aerial presence and Burgess would provide that.

I'm mainly going on the views of a mate who supports Norwich. I always thought he was athletic and decent but he says he makes so many errors these days. Ryan Bennett would be a better shout I reckon.

The type of defender who's played at the arse end of the top flight for most of his career. Not sure if he's ever played in a consistently winning team, but has gained a reputation as a Premier League standard centre half.

Finally been found out at Norwich, and is exactly the type of player we don't want anywhere near us.

I don't understand this notion regarding ex-premier league players. For every Dean Hammond, there's a Gary Speed, Gordon Cowans or Stuart McCall. For every Nyron Nosworthy, there's a Paul McGrath or Ugo Ehiogu.

Because we have a young, hungry squad, I think we might benefit from a bit of experience in defence and midfield. CW might be looking for a sort of improved version of Jake Wright if Jake isn't deemed good enough for the Championship.

True. I'm sure Wilder will pick the right ones if he's going to make any of those signings. Not sure if Bassong will be on his radar, but who knows.

Please god no. Being a native to Norwich I have seen him on a few occasions this year and sat next to his brother once whilst watching, even he cringed whenever Bassong touched the ball. He is terrible and would be a liability IMO.

That's funny!

What do you reckon to Ryan Bennett?

He seems like one of the best CB options for us to me.

It's not a notion. I've followed his career from when he joined Spurs as a talented prospect from Newcastle, when he actually looked decent. There are plenty of ageing PL players I'd be happy to see us sign and there are some in the championship too that would improve us (and may be available) but he's not one of them.

I was 'speaking' generally rather than about Bassong in particular.

How times change!

In our last stint in the Championship we'd have slaughtered the board for signing League One and Two players, now that's all everyone wants!

Very strange!

He's got potential, never really got a decent run in the side at Norwich so hard to really say what level he's at

Is it not more about the manager who wants to sign those players? i.e. Wilder has shown he can be trusted, no matter who he wants to sign and where they currently play. Previous managers didn't really have that trust so as fans we wanted more established players.
