i was reading stories about april fools, & came across this story about ryan gauld ,

now am i being too ambitious for a league 1 club because i was wondering as his career stalled at sporting lisbon, since his 3m move, he could be good person to try either loan or buy because ryan gauld was great for dundee united, broke into 1st team at 17, can be a attacking midfielder, who can create goals & score them. still only 20 could give us the creativity in midfield we have lacked tines this season & he would get some 1st team football/career back on track

Seriously?
There is no chance he will come to United, never mind any league 1 team, I dont think he would even consider the Championship.
With how good we are now, and how bad we are playing/position in the league...
...You are dreaming!

He would be a top signing but there is more chance of us going up this season than us signing him.

he got lost in a stargate ;)

Out of contract end of season
He was on loan at Hibs a couple of seasons ago and while he had undoubted skill, good range of passing etc... he didn't really have the muscle for the Scottish Prem and I felt he could go missing when the game got too tough. His lack of international caps is quite telling.

Given where Blades are/likely to be next season I'm not so sure he'd be the right fit.

Not an outrageous suggestion. He’s had a fantastic couple of years at Faranese.

The problem with Portuguese football IMHO is that outside the top 3 (although Benfica are dog shite this year too) it's fairly easy for average players to shine, the standard drops very quickly.

The Blades are one of several clubs said to be interested in Farense midfielder Ryan Gauld.

According to Team Talk, the Swans, Brighton and Hove Albion, Brentford, Sheffield United, Norwich City and Blackburn Rovers in taking an interest in the Scottish star, who was once heralded as one of the most promising talents in world football.

A player who was massively hyped in his youth but has lost his way a bit and needs an arm round his shoulders to help him finally reach his potential?

This is clear confirmation that Wilder is still involved in our transfer strategy in some capacity.

Good quick creative attacking midfielder which we currently dont have any players of that type, I would have no complaints if we signed him

If people are looking for a Duffy type player this lad is very much in that mould. Small diminutive with exceptional close control capable of snapping a players ankles with his movement. On the other hand as others have said hasn’t lived up to the massive early hype but as a free signing for a championship side this would be exciting especially if we have a role in mind for how to properly use him.

N diaye should be given a chance surely. We do need some attacking midfielders now tbf of Freeman isn't staying
He could possibly make the squad next season but wouldn’t he be better playing week in week out? He’s clearly not good enough at the moment to be pushing for a start else he would have been in, so you’re going to not bring someone in for a position we clearly need.
In all likelihood Lliman is a couple of years away from being who we need so he’s best looking to a league one loan to show he’s ready for men’s professional football and if we bring someone in, they aren’t holding him back.

Should he start if he's injured?
He’s not been injured for most of the season and if we were realistically looking at him as a starter for next year I think he would have made more appearances given the lack of form of our midfield and forwards.
There is a huge pressure now swelling to throw these kids into next season when they’ve played none or hardly any men’s football because the season has been so poor.
Next season isn’t going to be for the faint hearted in our midfield, and these kids deserve to be given the best chance to succeed.
If he’s going to get regular games then great but I don’t believe he’s ready just yet else we would have seen more of him and he’s only just 21.

So much for giving youngsters a chance eh
Setting aside the discussion of whether they’re ready if not. I don’t think we have a true Gauld type player in the academy to be honest. Brunt is a centremid who can play 10 and ndiaye looks to be a versatile striker who can play 10 like didzy. Neither of those players are primarily 10s so having them and a Gauld type player play isn’t mutually exclusive they could play in the same side.

The idea that Ndiaye isn’t good enough based on the fact he hasn’t been tried yet is flawed at best.

As for Gauld, I like him. Tricky number 10. Doing good things in Portugal. Showed great character by moving away from his homeland so young. Showed willingness to learn and adapt by learning the language (he sounds so funny in post match interviews with his blend of accents).

It would be a yes from me, especially on a free.

It’s not that he’s not been tried by us, its that he doesn’t have a full 90 mins in professional men’s football and we’ll be throwing him into a must perform and must win environment next season. I’m not sure that’s healthy for his development, against going on loan and enjoying his football away from the pressure.
Of course we could throw him in and not bring in an alternate and he thrives but it’s high risk.
If he is everything some fans believe he will be, then bringing in a player who’ll turn 26 this Christmas would hardly block his path.

I know nothing about this player but if he’s judged to be able to play at PL level, has been performing on a compatible level to the league we’ll be in, and on a free then like Mowatt he should be in our consideration. We need at least 4 midfielders this summer, so two without needing to spend anything on fees would be a sensible start.

David Brooks wasn't picked in League One. The manager who didn't pick him didn't pick Ndiaye. The manager changed and he was picked. He hasn't been involved in any squads for a few weeks. Perhaps if he wasn't injured he would be making appearances.
