Happens every time he bats these days.
 
This is misrepresentation! What I have said is that his record is not good against the better teams & their bowlers. Lets be honest SL are about the worst at the moment.

India in August AT HOME, & then the Ashes, lets see how he does then, proof of the pudding is in....etc! Good player yes, great hmm I am not convinced, but lets see over the next few months. I'm thinking 1 possibly 2 centuries against India, & none v the Aussies! That's possibly 20 innings, so a 'reyt player' should get over 1000 runs & more than 2 centuries, wouldn't you agree?

No you said he was terrible and didn’t deserve a place in the team. You did then change your stance after everyone pointed out how ridiculous that stance was to ‘he’s not as good as kohli’
 
I have mellowed a bit as I am 60 v soon! But I am not convinced that he has produced what we hoped he would over 7 years ago. I think he is an underachiever in test cricket against the better teams, he's obviously not terrible, but on occasions I am not sure he is worth his place. But on reflection the alternatives are consistently inconsistent & poor, maybe he the best of an inconsistent bunch.

Lets see over the next 10 tests, I am willing to eat HP if necessary & gladly.

Because this India side are clearly second rate, right?

The very least that needs saying in response to this is that the old cliche about India “not travelling well” needs revising—see, eg, their recent series in Australia. Whether they are as potent on English wickets, albeit in August when English wickets are least like English wickets, remains to be seen. But remind me just how many runs Root scored in India last winter, on Indian tracks?

I do understand some of the frustration with JR. But most of it is because of expectations placed upon him years ago by other people. He might have been the best English batsman ever. He might have scored even more runs without having to carry the captaincy (a huge commitment these days, given the demands of 24/7 sports news, obligations to sponsorship shit, etc).

Instead, he’s ”just” in the very top echelon of the very top bracket, in all forms of the game that he plays, with years of runs left in him, and plenty of power to add.

As ever, in cricket, the stats don’t lie.

Frankly, Rev, with all due respect, I think you’re full of it 🤷‍♂️

In fairness I love HP. It’s miles better than ketchup and hardly a punishment
 
India are a top side & will provide a stern test for England, before an even sterner test awaits us. I cannot name 6 batsmen who are currently better than JR, but that is not because he is so good, but because they are consistently poor. He is better than the best of a bad bunch, I am not saying that, but I think he has under achieved.

So if he is 'just' in the top echelon, I was expecting more from what was promised years ago, ,so this is partly about expectations. But as I have repeated lets see how the next 6 months pans out, & if I am 'full of it'.

What was it 'in cricket the stats don't lie'! So lets see what they say in January 2022!

Didn't he just average 46 in India whilst the rest of his batting line collapsed like Glen Hoddle after a fry up?
 
Yes, but based on 1 innings of 218, after that his next highest score was 33! So in 1 innings his contribution was massive & in the other 3 tests [6 innings] it was poor. Surely you can see that, that is what the stats say, & we subsequently lost the series 3-1.

Its alright showing tables & averages. but my point is that against the better teams he under achieves, & in particular since he became captain. Its one thing scoring 100 against SL & another against the Aussies or India, as I think we will see. But I hope I am wrong as I get no pleasure on seeing him under achieve.
