Romelle Donovan

There was one moment last night where I thought he showed something really rare that wasn’t a trick or a turn or a cross. It’s a small moment and it’s on the highlights vid.

He got the ball in a bit of space on the inside left, but Wrexham were all back and in a good defensive shape. 99 times out of a 100, a player would advance a couple of yards before laying it off and playing triangles. But Donovan instantly drove into the space at speed and made two defenders react, disrupting their comfortable line and creating space for Burrows.

Most players wouldn’t take that risk of turning over easy possession against a set defence. I’d imagine fans would groan and coaches would slaughter you.

But he’s good enough and confident enough to always ask questions. It’s an ability and mentality that we saw in both MGW and Ndiaye. He’s got a long way to go to match them, but there are parallels.

Wilder was still irked by the Donovan question post match "I am the one who signed him ya know..."

Honestly, this incarnation of Wilder still does my head in. Just be humble for once Chris and admit you MAY just be wrong and the fans MAY have just been right.

He does have a point though.
Some fans act like they scouted him, and his name is far to exotic for a dinosaur like Wilder to want. How about fans give him credit for bringing in such a young exciting, forward thinking prospect that very little of us had heard of?

Tbh it was his mates at Brentford who made this happen

Donovan’s pure energy is amazing. When he loses the ball he’s up straight away and harassing to get it back. Very reminiscent of Illiman and MGW.
Does anyone know if we have any young un’s coming through who have this sort of style?

I wonder if when he does decide to start Donovan, he'll get as many chances to stay in the team as BBD and Chong do? My guess is not, and if he's not done anything in 60 minutes or has a quiet game, he'll be back on the bench again for the next few games. Seems like some players only get 1 chance to make an impact when given the chance, whereas others can do as they please and will get picked regardless.
OR you dont understand why hes not chosen more.

Yeah I don’t understand why our best talent in the squad is not chosen more, please enlighten me
OK will do. Donovan is a fantastic attacking force on either flank we'll both agree. But he needs solid support behind him at RB or LB.
I believe Wilder doesnt trust him tracking back he needs solid support behind him to let him do his stuff.
Chaudhary isnt a solid RB hes only fillinging in, so he opts for Chong in front of him to be more solid. Bit of a handrake on job if you want. Not inspiring to watch I think we agree.
So last night its a masterstroke , start Donovan on the left, with Burrows as that support. Then he switches Donovan to the right and brings Seriki on. Works great. Other than Donovan being bolloxed after 65 mins because hes chased the ball like a little Jack Russel.

Chong is less likely to win the ball back than Donovan, to use an old expression he is “nesh”
Maybe. He seems to just admit defeat in duels far too early/easily. Im not sure he's a fanny, he just quits easy. That said, he never hides.
